Re: installing LMDE4 fron live CD

I have Mint 20. It's LMDE4 on my PC I'm trying to get, having preferred LMDE3 to Mint 19 in the past and being able to run LMDE4 on a laptop

Re: installing LMDE4 fron live CD

compatibility mode doesn't work either. I get an unending series of messages on the screen: [<number>.number>] hpet1: lost 9600 rtc interrupts [<number>.number>] hpet1: lost 9601 rtc interrupt .... (number incrementing every second) interspersed infrequently by ...usb: disconnect, device number <num...

Re: installing LMDE4 fron live CD

I followed your instructions (with slight modification) to get to the line under the menu, inserted 'nomodeset', then F10 to start ('Enter' just added a newline to the line). After a good deal of CD/DVD reader activity it went quiet and the screen went blank with the blinking cursor top left. What d...

Re: installing LMDE4 fron live CD

Thanks for your comments. Can I check with you the steps you're advising? (1) Start from live DVD in compatibility mode. If necessary, using 'nomodeset' option from DVD (2) install LMDE4 at low resolution (3) in LMDE4 choose and update to latest kernel (>=5.6) (4) install amdgpu (5) reboot and reset...

Re: installing LMDE4 fron live CD

(1) PC no longer has windows on it. (2) I get to the first menu (LMDE4 (64-bit), ..., LMDE4 (64-bit) Nvidia drivers, check integrity of the medium). After pressing 'Enter' I get the black screen with blinking cursor in the top left of the screen. (3) if I can't get LMDE4 with kernel 5.8 on a live CD...

Re: installing LMDE4 fron live CD

Thanks for replying so promptly. I don't get as far as seeing a desktop. Here are some details: The PC is an HP M01-F0230ng AMD Ryzen 5 3400G 8 GB DDR4-SDRAM 256 GB SSD with USB Samsung SE-208 portable DVD writer instead of internal CD/DVD drive. It came with Windows 10 pre-installed which I wiped, ...

installing LMDE4 fron live CD

I've installed LMDE4 from a DVD ISO to a laptop, but installing to my PC stalls. The LMDE4 Debbie options are displayed; then there's a lot of busy CD reading; then everything stops with a blank screen apart from a blinking cursor in the top left of the screen. Ctrl-Alt-F1 gives a command-line promp...

Re: installing Mint on HP M010F

Thanks, dorsetUK, for the link. I've gone through the process several times in the past with different machines having earlier Windows versions, but I just wanted to check whether there were any known or suspected problems deriving from Windows 10 or the particular HP machine.

installing Mint on HP M010F

I'm thinking of getting an HP M01-F desktop to replace an old HP Pavilion that has given up the ghost on me. HP M01-Fs are all going to have Windows 10 installed on them - are there any problems with replacing the Windows OS completely with Linux?

Re: Mint 20 multiple workspaces

Thanks lightfoot, Unfortunately MATE 20 (or at least, my MATE 20) has no workspace display at all, just a panel at the bottom of the screen.Right-clicking on this brings up options to do with panels (add to panel, etc.), nothing to do with workspaces. Right clicking on the main screen of course offe...

applications don't get added to Appllications list in MATE 20

Having made a fresh installation of Mate 20 I've added extra applications to my system from Synaptic Package Manager. In the past with earlier Mates, these would then appear in the 'All Applications' list. I could right-click on certain particularly useful ones; select 'Add to panel' ; and create an...

Mint 20 multiple workspaces

I've never had any trouble with setting up multiple workspaces on previous versions of MATE; but now I can't see any way of doing it on MATE 20. There doesn't seem to be any option for 'workspace switcher' in All Applications or Preferences, etc. Ctrl_Alt_Up shows a line of 4 workspaces but no '+' i...

Epson XP-452 printer has suddenly stopped printing

I'm running Mint 18.3 with an Epson XP-452 printer that was functioning until a few weeks ago. After coming back from a brief absence I updated the system with the update manager (Linux slimline 4.15.0-51-generic #55~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu May 16 09:24:37 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux). updating LMDE2 screws up LibreOffice

I've recently fully updated my LMDE2 Cinnamon through Update Manager, including LibreOffice, and now find that reports in LibreOffice Base always have the first page blank (so 1-page reports display a totally blank output). Documents produced in Writer also have the first page blank. What's going on...
