Epson XP-452 printer has suddenly stopped printing

I'm running Mint 18.3 with an Epson XP-452 printer that was functioning until a few weeks ago. After coming back from a brief absence I updated the system with the update manager (Linux slimline 4.15.0-51-generic #55~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu May 16 09:24:37 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux). No...

updating LMDE2 screws up LibreOffice

I've recently fully updated my LMDE2 Cinnamon through Update Manager, including LibreOffice, and now find that reports in LibreOffice Base always have the first page blank (so 1-page reports display a totally blank output). Documents produced in Writer also have the first page blank. What's going on...

Re: grub configuration borked by dpkg

Thanks, but when I run this I get the same old message:
" E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a to correct the problem."
and doing that brings me back to the grub-pc frozen terminal window

[SOLVED] Re: How do I remove a broken package?

After having tried unsuccessfully to purge the broken package I ran
"apt-cache policy libgirepository"
and it yielded "Unable to locate package libgirepository".

I then downloaded version 1.42.... and installed with dpkg -i.

It's all OK now.

Many thanks indeed!

Re: How do I remove a broken package?

(1) Edit - fix broken packages: message: "Successfully fixed dependency problems". But libgirepository is shown with a cross through it. "Apply" still brings up the original list of dependencies to be deleted; quitting and restarting synaptic just shows the broken package again. (2) Resetting the re...

How do I remove a broken package?

I made the mistake of trying to "dpkg -i" a version of a package (libgirepository-1.0 version 1.46) which turned out to be incompatible with my LMDE2 and broke. My installed version of libgirepository is 1.42. In order to remove the broken 1.46 package, however, synaptic wants to remove a whole raft...

How do you add Workspaces?

I have a laptop on which I've recently installed LMDE2 (I already have LMDE2 on a PC). The bottom panel of the screen has various icons but no Workspace icon, so I can't right-click on it to add a new workspace - as I do on the PC - nor can I find where else to increase the number of workspaces. Bei...

Re: What does a "/home/clem/sandbox" error mean?

I actually first had this bug with gramps 4.2.1 - upgrading to 4.2.3 was my unsuccessful attempt to overcome it by upgrading. Gramps 4.1.1~dfsg-3 runs fine for me on Jessie. Trying to install packages intended for different releases is bound to cause problems. ;-) That wasn't the problem as it turn...

Re: How to stop the screen flicking between workspaces

Follow-up:

In the end I removed mdm and installed gdm.
This has largely - though not completely - cured the problem, which was making it almost impossible to work

Most probably this is coming from Clem, the founder of Linux Mint.
He has been informed yesterday.
Many thanks - I look forward to enlightenment :D

How to stop the screen flicking between workspaces

It's very irritating and disruptive that the screen keeps flicking spontaneously from one workspace to another (which may be blank). This happens whether I move the mouse or not.
I'm not clear what settings I might change to stop this.
Can someone help?
