Re: Surprise, surprise

I'm running in 18.3, fortunately I retained that version. I can't open Ubuntu, I only get the grub? screen that lets me pick an OS. I'm going to reinstall 19.1, so all it'll take is time trying to reconstruct my setup. I'm concerned though that I've used Timeshift believing that I can update kernels...

Three hdd system. sda1 M18.2; sdb1 /boot, sdb2 /, sdb3 M17, sdc installed but not found on gparted or update-grub. fdisk -l shows /dev/sdc1 2048 1953523711 976760832 83 Linux If I remove the data cable on sdc, everything stops - no black screen, no funny patterns, just a frozen display and all actio...

Re: Disaster strikes!

Update: I can now boot into sda1 (19.2), but not sdb, which is the critical device. On a restart, sdb is in grub.cfg and I get both in the grub menu. When I select sdb, I get the message: "no such device (with the correct UUID), vm linux not found, you need to load the kernel first." Out put of the ...

Disaster strikes!

I have/had a three hdd setup. Boot was sdc, which recently failed. In attempting to move boot to sdb using boot-repair, I have lost the ability to access sdb1, my 17.2 working distro. To complicate matters, I can only boot from sdc which according to gparted and grub. doesn't exist. In grub, both 18...

Re: Live session password

Thanks. I, of course, tried my password. Fortunately there's an off switch, so I got out.

Live session password

Running 18.1 live, I had to leave the keyboard for an extended period. When I returned, I was greeted by a user logon screen asking for a password. I had read that mint was the user name and (enter) was the password. This didn't work, so tried serena, mint, passwrd and others without success. Any id...

Re: Scanner not detected(SOLVED)

One last flogging of a dead equine. In LM 17.3 by using (scanner program) hpaio:/net/Officejet_5740_series?ip=xxx , I can successfully run all scanner programs in the Terminal by using the URI (192.168.0.3, in my case) of the scanner. My solution: I created an executable BASH script for simple scan ...

Re: Scanner not detected

I need to summarize my situation: I have been using LM since 13. I could scan with all versions through LM17. LM17 is the version I use for my work, and I don't want to do anything that could possibly screw my ability to scan with that version. Starting with 17.1 through 18 beta, I get the message "...

Re: Scanner not detected

Thanks for the suggestions pcpunk; I've tried them all to no avail. Interestingly, by installing hplip-gui on Fedora 23 I was able to get simple-scan to function when it wouldn't work before that addition. Using the Terminal approach means I can use simple-scan on LM17+, it's just cumbersome when I ...

Re: Scanner not detected

Back again after several attempts to get my scanner to work on any version but LM17, including 18 beta. I think I've identified the problem, but haven't found a solution. Using Terminal and the URI of the scanner, simple-scan hpaio:/net/Officejet_5740_series?ip=xxxx , I can scan without a problem. W...

Re: Scanner not detected

After hours searching every resource for a solution, I've reached the conclusion that I should thank my lucky stars that my scanner works on LM17. It appears that every subsequent Mint or Ubuntu distro after that is scanner averse. However, I suspect there are hundreds, if not thousands, of LM users...

Re: Scanner not detected

Update: I was mistaken - my every day, every thing works is LM 17. Checking the other versions I have installed, I find the "can't find the scanner" exists on 17.1, 17.2 and 17.3. I was planning to use the 17.3 as a backup if I had a disk failure on 17, which is why I was trying out the simple scan ...

Re: Scanner not detected

After many, many minutes watching multiple activities running apt-get install linux-generic nothing has changed - still can't connect the scanner. Also get a SSL connection error when trying to use Google Chrome. After running the linux-generic install, what do I have on that partition? Qiana, Rebec...

Scanner not detected(SOLVED)

Because of the problem I have now encountered, I keep three Mint versions active on separate HDDs. I upgraded from 17.2 to 17.3 and encountered a problem attempting to get simple-scan to recognize my HP 5740. Because I have no scanner problems with my working version (17.1), it seems logical that th...

Re: Keyboard?

Follow up. Checked LibreOffice Writer to see if I was stuck on a special symbol. Under File the third entry was Recent Docuq"ents.
But I can get an m or M here.

Keyboard?

Mint 17. Suddenly, when I try to type an m while searching in Synaptic Package Manager, I get q' for a lowercase m and Q" for an uppercase. I also get that substitution randomly in other applications.
Any ideas on what's causing this?

Thanks

Re: Lost mount point

blkid correctly shows the 30 partitions, not including swap, on my system. /dev/sdc8, for which there is no mount point is also included.

cat /proc/mounts has only three partitions listed; /dev/sdc8 is not included.
