Bluetooth won't detect devices, uses weird device name
Hi. I've recently purchased some bluetooth headphones and a bluetooth speaker. My phone will pair with them so I know they work, but my laptop running Mint 18.1 MATE 64 bit will not even detect their presence when I turn on Bluetooth. Also strangely, it usually says my computer is visible as "B...

Re: Hybrid CDs in VirtualBox
I did more research and ended up using a program called CDemu to mount the .CUE file as a CD (with the BIN in the same folder as the CUE), and then I inserted the CDemu drive into the virtual optical disk drive, just like I would with an ISO. I like this because it's pretty easy (once I figured it o...

Re: Hybrid CDs in VirtualBox
They're the old Magic School Bus educational games from the 1990s, published by Microsoft. They have the data section but the audio is stored as an audio CD. I've read that ISOs cannot maintain multiple tracks and therefore audio CDs, and hybrid CDs like these, cannot be put in an ISO without breaki...

Hybrid CDs in VirtualBox [SOLVED]
Hello. I have a few installer CDs for games from my childhood. I'd like to create ISOs or the like but they have music tracks on them as well as data, which I've read makes it impossible to make an ISO. I'd like to run the games in VirtualBox without needing to put the CD in, but it looks like Virtu...

Re: Mate panel icons not showing
I wrestled with the panel for a couple hours, and finally got it the way I like. I have to be very careful to place things exactly where I want them, because I can only move some applets by clicking and dragging. If I try Rightclick-Move on the lower panel, it will try to move the applet to the uppe...

No, I have no clue. Sorry. You may wish to ask here though: viewforum.php?f=59 That's the Graphics Cards & Monitors subforum. You may get more attention for this problem there.

Re: Mate panel icons not showing
The new user's panels functioned properly briefly, being able to add applets to both panels and move one applet from one to the other. After that, panel apps resumed disappearing during switches and not being placeable on the second panel to begin with. I then went back to my main account, uninstall...

My icons become invisible too, when I move them between panels. I reinstalled Mint and it's still happening.

Re: Mint 18 64-bit MATE: Intermittent WiFi Issues (Urgent: limited computer return period)
Herp derp, there's a thing called an "external wifi adapter". I actually stared right at it about four times during this ordeal, and it finally clicked a few minutes ago that I could use it. I'll see if this solves the problem then...

Re: Mint 18 64-bit MATE: Intermittent WiFi Issues (Urgent: limited computer return period)
Rather than poking around inside the computer and risk breaking it more and/or voiding the warranty, I'm going to call HP today to try to return this laptop and get a different refurbished one. There's another good one, a different model that may have different/working networking, plus it's cheaper ...

Re: Mint 18 64-bit MATE: Intermittent WiFi Issues (Urgent: limited computer return period)
It's a refurbished computer and it was on sale, this was the second-to-last one they had. I can return it but I can't get a replacement.
I was told by the HP technician that I will soon receive a video in my email instructing on how to access the wifi card to check for damage.

Re: Mint 18 64-bit MATE: Intermittent WiFi Issues (Urgent: limited computer return period)
Thanks for the advice. My cousin read that and knows what it says I guess. (I don't.) He says it might not help because I'm having trouble all over the place with various networks, not just this one router in my apartment.
What next? Is he/am I missing something in the advice?

Re: Mint 18 64-bit MATE: Intermittent WiFi Issues (Urgent: limited computer return period)
I was relieved at first, because it seemed to be working, but now on my home network, it displays the ethernet connection icon even though it's not connected to ethernet. It won't display a list of any nearby wifi networks, and cannot actually connect to anything. Frustratingly, pluma says it can't ...

OK. I saved that to a text document on my flash drive so I can run it when the connection isn't working. I'll let you know, probably tomorrow when I go back to the clubhouse. Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response!
Power Management is Off. The connection is working at the moment, 10ft away or not. I hate intermittent errors.
What do I do now?

Update: It now does not work here at home either. It doesn't say I'm not connected and the indicator has four bars, but it does not load anything in Firefox. It just stopped suddenly.

Mint 18 64-bit MATE: Intermittent WiFi Issues (Urgent: limited computer return period)
Hello. I'm having intermittent wifi issues, which may or may not be related. I need to have the problem diagnosed within a few days, because HP only has a 10-day return period for this refurbished ProBook, and it's been a few. They don't support computers with Linux on them and I really don't want t...
