Re: Anyone else get flickering desktop backgrounds and windows periodically on NVIDIA cards in Cinnamon?

Nvudia card here. Same problem iterated in original post here coupled with multiple freezes per day using Cinnamon Zoom. Logout / login would get rid of flickering temporarily. Freezes from zoom required hard reboot. Posted this problem here - no takers. Gave up, reformatted and went back to rock so...

Re: Well, I gave up

In all seriousness I completely agree with you on all points. However, I had just managed to totally hose my Mint 18.3 installation due to a catastrophic power outage (thunderstorm with power out / power on / power out / power on several times in less than 30 seconds) so since I had to rebuild, I th...

Well, I gave up

After a week of locking up multiple times a day usint Mint 19 Cinnamon with zoom, I gave up, reformatted yet again and went back to Mint 18.3 and rock solid stability. Maybe in several months when the Ubuntu underpinnings stabilize, or Cinnamon gets sorted.

FOUR lockups today - this is seriously trying my patience. Even ditched Cairo-Dock to no avail.

Freezes in Mint Cinnamon 19 with zoom

Hi, An old symptom from when Cinnamon first got the zoom function has sadly resurfaced. System config: I7 / 16Gb / solid state / nVidia GTX660 Fresh Install of Mint 19 Cinnamon x64 / nVidia proprietary drivers Cairo-Dock with OpenGL enabled (version in Repos) I use the zoom function A Lot because I'...

MATE and Compiz - the final solution

OK Kidz, I've finally gotten it down pat. The problem for me is that Marco is useless. It's very bare-bones and doesn't do desktop zoom. Compiz does. However, when you enable Compiz it's the dog's breakfast - nothing is set up by default and it's a complete disaster. You can't export the settings fr...

Where does one report a Cinnamon bug effectively?

Hi folks, About a month ago, I reported a Cinnamon bug (definitely specific to Cinnamon and repeatable on Mint 13, Ubuntu 12.04 with Cinnamon 1.4 installed, etc.) and nothing has happened. By that I mean that it hasn't even been acknowledged on the bug site where I reported it. Here is where I repor...

Re: Mint Compiz friendly

On MATE, if you open "Keyboard Shortcuts" from the Preferences menu, you can configure the shortcut key to toggle the magnifier. If you prefer Compiz, MATE comes with Compiz already installed, I think you just need to add the package compizconfig-settings-manager to be able to configure i...

Re: A compiz question from a dev perspective

A general reply to my own question: Unless someone can come up with a better option, I'm faced with bringing up Mint 10 and Mint 13 in separate VMs and playing an elaborate game of "One Of These Things Is Not Like The Other" until both Compiz environments, plugins and their configuration i...

Re: How to put Buttons on the left, Mac Style?

Found this command online for MATE. mateconftool-2 --set /apps/marco/general/button_layout --type string "close, minimize, maximize:" This part here changes the ordering, "close, minimize, maximize:" To change it back to default for instance use ":minimize,maximize,close"....

Re: A compiz question from a dev perspective

It could be that MATE has Compiz disabled by default. Mint 10 used gnome2, Mint 13 uses MATE...although I don't know if it makes that much of a difference in Compiz working. MATE has Compiz installed but disabled. At the start of all this, I edited the mate conf file to change the default window ma...

Re: A compiz question from a dev perspective

Make sure that both pcs have the same plugins installed. You might have installed the fusion package on one and not on the other and maybe that's why its not working. sudo apt install compiz-fusion-plugins-main sudo apt install compiz-fusion-plugins-extra Mint 10 had the following installed: Compiz...

Re: A compiz question from a dev perspective

There's an option in Compiz that allows you to export your settings and save them in a file. You can then import that file and the settings will be copied...like magicccc  Compizconfig Settings Manager > Preferences > Profile > Export Thanks for hte reply. I did do this previously but it did...
