[SOLVED]Re: MATE 19.1 Titlebar color

Thank you. It worked but with undesirable side effects--title font changed, text color in terminal windows matched to titlebar color. i don't want to get into theme code. I will hang with MATE 18 and check back when 19.2 and 20 become available.

MATE 19.1 Titlebar color

I have been using MATE 18 for some time and am very happy with it, but thought that I had better check out 19.1 as a replacement. So far the replacement answer is NO. I can't control the titlebar color for the Human-Clearlooks theme (or any other theme for that matter.) There have been suggestions o...

Re: Change colour of title bar?

My problem and feelings exactly. Mint 18 had a "color" pick in the "Customize Theme"menu. Please bring it back.
However, I am trying to customize the Human-Clearlooks theme. Can similar changes be made to the gtkrc files I find in /usr/share/themes?

ntpd doesn't run

I run Mint 18 Mate on three machines. A week or so ago I realized that the machine I use most often did not have correct time. ntpq -pn revealed that the ntp.conf file had been read but there apparently has been no communication with servers, pool or the local servers I have since added to ntp.conf....

Can't boot Asus x550la

I found it desirable to replace LMDE on a dual boot with Win10 with Mint 18 on an Asus x550la. After installing all I can get is "grub rescue file not found." I tried all the web suggestions for using grub rescue as far as I could. Never succeeded. I tried most every other suggestion on the web. Sup...

Linuxmint-18-Mate solved my problems. WiFi was there immediately; lots of resolutions to choose from. Human icons and humanity theme installed. ...

I suspect that Debian software has not kept up with Ubuntu. Thanks

Install to an Asus f556

Sad story. I bought an Asus f556 with SSD to reduce boot times on dual boot with Win 10. I used the old Betsy DVD that I used to install on a couple of other machines. And it installed on the new machine also. BUT Two main problems before I invest a lot of time configuring. 1) I could not get a wire...

Wrong Theme upon login

I run LMDE2, Uuntu16.04 and Windows 10 on this machine. Upon login LMDE and Ubuntu MATE come up with a window theme and icon set are are unknown to me. So I right click the desktop, click Change Background, and the windows decoration and icons change before the usual window comes up, and I have a ch...

Change Desktop Background

I don't know how I messed up a long running LMDE, but trying to fix it lead me to believe that a clean install would be better. Betsy went in well enough, with a few difficulties and mysteries. Human-clearlooks theme with Human icons have been a problem for some time, but I finally got a customized ...

Re: uefi, LMDE2, install GRuB SOLVED

I am running again. Loaded LMDE from 2014. Didn't make any difference. So I went after uefi boot priority entries. Deleted a duplicate, and finally managed to creat a path toward grub.efi. Select that priority and I was in to 2014 LMDE. I will forget LMDE2 for now.

uefi, LMDE2, install GRuB

ITs a long story. I have tried a lot of the suggestions for getting LMDE booted again after messing with the windows partition on my dual boot machine. I have install LMDE2 4 or more times now. I am running under the live CD at the moment. Doing the "grub-install" thing doesn't work__some thing abou...

Audio in a new Asus X550 laptop running LMDE

I have been running Linux versions for many years, LMDE for over a year, and always stumbled onto settings under System->Prefs->Sound and Alsamixer to get the sound I needed. But my new laptop has a built in mic and camera, and I would like to use Google Hangouts. Can't. I get nothing out of the mik...

Where is panel configuration kept

I did an update last night. Didn't think much of it as usually there is only one or two new packages, but last night there were quite a few, so perhaps I should have paid more attention. The price I am paying: This morning I have no upper panel (which was full of launchers) and my lower panel was sp...

Re: CUPS printing under LMDE [Solved]

Thank you lizabeth. Followed your instructions. Got a real scare after the reboot after loading gnome-system-tools. I was logged in running Xclient script which piled all start up windows on top of each other, and there were no controls to delete them. I eventually got a login screen and selected MA...

CUPS printing under LMDE

I am doing my third install of LMDE. All going unexpectedly well. However, this install involves a printer, HP J4680. I have put in the required hours and hours of googleing, read, trying, installing and deleting the printer over and over again, etc. All software reports look fine; hp-check now repo...

I finally solved the access problem with file /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules with contents: # 'libusb' device nodes SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="16c0", GROUP="dialout" I don't know why a MODE="0666" simply will not work. Someone must understand the udev rules well enough to explain. I did ch...

User permission to use USB

I am trying LMDE as a possible replacement for my MATE systems. (That "no more upgrades" caught my eye.) I have been moving along; most things work fine. I did have to download and install humanity packages from an Ubuntu archive. But now I am stopped cold. File /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rul...

Re: caja and desk background <Solved>

The effective answer I found for my problems was a third install. Go figure. This time I formatted the partition before installing. It makes for a lot of work to set everything up again, but it worth it to have a clean desktop. Sorry if I wasted your time.
