Re: Sharing Folder Locked - Mint to Mint

I'm using whatever is native in Linux Mint- right click, Sharing Options. I'd thought Linux-to-Linux would be a no-brainer

Sharing Folder Locked - Mint to Mint

I have mint on 3 computers now, two are installed and one is booted from a thumb drive currently. Soon there will be four in total. My name on all is the same and then the login and machine name are the same (Jage log in to garage.local with garage/pwd). Since I'm the only one who uses these machine...

Re: Live CD boots but then Restarts - Can't install [SOLVED]

Solved with trial and error (as best I recollect): 1. DL Mint 11 (CD no codecs) 2. Burn CD in XP 3. From CD Use Install from Windows 4. Claim to have no bootable CD drive 5. Linux Mint added to Windows MBR 6. Download Penlinux 7. Install Mint 11 .iso on USB drive 8. Reboot with USB drive in, CD out ...

Live CD boots but then Restarts - Can't install [SOLVED]

Short version, I started having this problem and used gparted to delete all partitions except WinXP. Then I restored the MBR using the WinXP since grub couldn't find the partition. The problem still persists, which is this: 1. Insert LiveCD (Linux Mint 11, booted and installed from probably 12 times...

Restore Native Drivers?

I have an old ATI card that is not supported and found outdated drivers. I tried installing them with earlier packages and it failed. THEN I got frustrated and threw the current AMD Proprietary ATI drivers at it, despite my card not being listed as supported. So now things are messed up and I'd like...

Re: Dual Monitors

I guess I wasn't clear- using the native Mint dual monitor support INSTEAD of twinview. twinview is terrible in all the ways you said. My experience is that everything you listed* is a result of using twinview. Good luck. *my youtube videos do not maximize to the actual screen, however they do play ...

Art program that is not GIMP?

Looking for something simple like Paint Shop Pro (my version doesn't WINE) or Paint.NET (just starting using before putting a bullet in XP) My problems with GIMP are that it's counter intuitive to someone who's been doing computer art for years, the d@#n ant borders, crazy persistent ALPHAs and wors...

Re: xrandr on boot? [SOLVED]

Well eventually I came around to needing to change the resolution and this really helped. I followed these instructions to get my resolution commands: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-change-display-resolution-settings-using-xrandr.html With the codicil that you reboot and don't touch the GUI monitor, ...

Re: Thunderbird Junk Email Too Agressive

You might want to have a read through http://kb.mozillazine.org/Filters_%28Thunderbird%29 and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Junk_Mail_Controls#Tweaking According to that, before the tweaking section I have to mark non-junk mail, about 100 messages good. Since there is no "not Junk" button I use Shift+J...

Alt Codes Like Windows

I know, I know, but one of the big reasons I haven't been able to *nix in the past has been the unsupported alt codes. Yes, I can learn a whole new system. Yes I could memorize anew all the alt-codes I know that I use regularly in Unicode, and play break a finger trying to type them in. I can progra...

Re: Gave it a shot...

Ditto, really like the starburst / mint logo right over it... on it's own the center of the burst is too bright IMHO, but the logo over is awesome. You should be able to alter your selection by shrinking it a pixel or two and maybe turning on anti-alias in the selection... I'm guessing you're using ...

Re: Font Manager - works great, but could not review

Incidentally, who is this "the development team"? Linux Mint or the package author or someone else? I successfully reviewed another application after realizing the forum registration and the "community" registration for linuxmint.com were different animals, but this application review won't work. Th...

Re: xrandr on boot?

You know in Control Center under Personal there is a "Startup Applications" and typing the xrandx command as written there worked smashingly. I appreciate the script advice, but I'm a GUI guy and if I can do something without terminal I'd rather (I know, heresy of the worst kind...) Anyway, just men...

Thunderbird Junk Email Too Agressive

It seems like thunderbird is putting everything into junk- all my legitimate paypal business (thank goodness I noticed!), emails from the linuxmint community and forum (the activation email for community? straight to junk, reply notification for my last post here? marked as junk) The worst is by far...

xrandr on boot? [SOLVED]

I use

Code: Select all

xrandr --output VGA-0 --primary
to make my monitor primary over my laptop screen, but noticed it is not persistent on booting.

Is there somewhere to put this in a boot sequence, or somewhere to record this as a preference?

First thing I tried, I installed that but it wanted partner info and ids and stuff and I couldn't figure out how to just connect to another desktop.

Screen Not Refreshing for Remote Desktop

Whether my client is (WinXP VncViewer 4.x) or Linux Mint (Remmina) remoteing into my linux Mint box doesn't refresh the screen. The whole screen generally starts out black and only where an application refreshes (not on close window) or the mouse is click-dragged does it refresh (see attached). My g...

Re: How does mint handle dual monitors? [SOLVED]

For anyone searching in the future: Mint 11 works awesome. No "you can't move this" unity bar, program menu where you'd expect it if you're migrating from windows, and fully movable. Incidentally, I did spend most of the day fighting hardware problems to get a bootable CD created (apparently can't b...
