Re: [SOLVED] Upgrading Packages

Can't back them all up, I have 9tb of stuff! I'll have a look at that programme.

Re: [SOLVED] Upgrading Packages

No, your advice was correct. I'm just picky about how the backup gets done, what gets backed up, and my trust in the programmes available. As I only botch up my system once every blue moon, it's easier to just keep a list of all the programmes I like and what scripts go where. Your advice was perfec...

Re: [SOLVED] Upgrading Packages

Ah, they all suck. Seems my best bet is my folder with all config files and a text document saying what to do!

Re: [SOLVED] Upgrading Packages

How do I backup my system? Does it note all the additional scripts I've added in the etc folder, amongst others? Will my fstab and smb.conf remain as I like them?

Re: [SOLVED] Upgrading Packages

OK, final bit then...

Will a level 4/5 update become a level 1/2/3 update once all the bugs are worked out? Will a risky/dangerous update be replaced (and thus stop showing in my list) with a non-risky update?

Re: [SOLVED] Upgrading Packages

I know this is listed as solved but I wondered something similar... If you use the terminal and apt to upgrade your system, then it will install all level 4 and 5 upgrades... I like a fully up to date system, couldn't see anything in the change logs saying, "This update kills your computer"...

Re: K3B and Krename just got killed by an update...

All sorted for me as well. Why hasn't someone copied these KDE based programs so they're in format native to Mint (not me, I break more things than I fix)?

K3B and Krename just got killed by an update... [solved]

I'm running Mint Mate 17 LTS. Just updated, saw it would remove k3b and krename, but thought, "I'll just reinstall them afterwards..." Damn it! They won't go back on, Software Manager says use apt-get but that doesn't work, Package Manager says they're broken when I select them. Krename wa...

Java & Chrome...

This gets asked so many times by so many people, but the information out there seems to be out of date. I've solved it before but I can't now. So... Dammit, how the hell do I make Chrome run Java on Mint Mate 17 running Chrome version 35.0.1916.153 ?!?!?! For my example, I go to http://www.keepvid.c...

Re: WinFF returns Unknown encoder 'libvo_aacenc'

Oh my god, don't install libavcodec-extra as recommended by winff; it deletes winff, gstreamer, vlc, everything you've ever loved... to fix damage I just reinstalled system!

Re: WinFF returns Unknown encoder 'libvo_aacenc'

Hey, I've just upgraded from Mate 15 to 17 and, though everything is a little slower, I'm happy... Winff (which I use to convert video files to share via MediaTomb (TV requires mp4) doesn't work now for the same reasons this chap has mentioned. I tried the solution from http://askubuntu.com/question...

Re: Force all traffic to use VPN...

Discovered that editing the wired connection whilst connected to vpn allows you to direct all traffic via a single vpn (partway to a solution); is there anyway to direct traffic through VPNs in order of preference (uk has bbc and gmail doesn't explode every time I use Thunderbird), with an internati...

Re: Force all traffic to use VPN...

My original title was clumsy using the word "limit", I want all traffic to use a VPN (and if the VPN falls over, pick either of another two VPNs). Traffic shaping just appears to throttle the network. ifconfig produces this: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:18:38:02:a1:f3 inet addr:192.1...

Force all traffic to use VPN...

I've set up three VPNs, in order of preference: Gateway: bestukvpn.com Username: freeb1 Password: 1234 Gateway: uk.ukusvpn.com Username: freeb2 Password: 2234 Gateway: vpnforuk.com Username: freeb3 Password: 3234 and I want all internet traffic to go through these, with no traffic from any process a...

No to f11, but I do set it not to use system title and scroll bars. It's very annoying, I decide what goes in my systray.

Unchecked all flags already, restarted, still notification bell showing. Unticked all the options using gear icon... still a notification bell mocking me.
