Re: [Solved] Is anyone having issues with privateinternetaccess vpn?

@Kev1105, sounds like the problem I was having, I installed the latest software from their website, I posted my resolution in here yesterday (see above) Their download page is here https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/client-support/ when you get the linux download it also gives you a step by...

Re: Is anyone having issues with privateinternetaccess vpn?

My old "Clem" install still wasn't working this morning, I was watching a download and after a minute of so it just got slower and slower them stopped. Deleted the PIA definition in Network Settings and uninstalled the pia-manager package via synaptic, then manually installed pia-v68-installer-linux...

[Solved] Is anyone having issues with privateinternetaccess vpn?

It started yesterday (Sat 8th) it connects and works for a minute or so then won't connect to any sites, it is still up, nothing in the system log, I've restarted, changed the server from Southampton then London then Netherlands, all the same result, also tried on my other Mint 18.1 system, exactly ...

Re: Video performance on different desktops

In what way is it "the wrong configuration for LXDE"? Does it not use the same video drivers regardless of desktop? As VLC is running full-screen doesn't it have control of the output, so how does the desktop affect it?

Btw I have been using Linux for over 10 years so not a beginner.

Video performance on different desktops

This is not really a problem, more of an observation which I am at a loss to explain, maybe someone knows the answer. I recently bought a new mini PC for behind the TV, nice and fast, Core i5-4300U with built-in graphics which show in inxi as Graphics: Card: Intel Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Con...

Re: Help with HDMI output on an older TV

@Rene thanks, these were the sorts of things I was looking into, but didn't have the time to research it while I was there and I found it pretty confusing. Unfortunately my friend is completely non-technical, so I will try some testing here, and build up a list of stuff to try next time I'm go round...

Re: Convert VHS to DVD

I hear your problem, virtually all video capture boxes or cards come with proprietary Windows software, which is why I have to use a WinXP PC to record TV through a usb digital box I a bought at Maplin. I have explored using Linux with various capture devices but could never get any to work unless t...

Re: Help with HDMI output on an older TV

@Rene thanks, but I tried all the picture settings in both HDMI ports, I have the user manual and there is nothing in the settings about enabling underscan. Unfortunately my friend lives a long way from me so I can't easily do any testing so was trying to find someone who may have had a similar issu...

Help with HDMI output on an older TV

Hi, For a friend I recently set up Mint 18 Cinnamon 64bit on an old mini PC that I had behind my TV for 6 years (running XP), it's a bit slow but has an nVidia GeForce 9200 video card so works fine with video in HD, to cut down on overheads I installed LXDE and got it all working fine on my TV after...

Re: LXDE missing from session options in MDM

Figured it out, it seems just installing LXDE from Software Manager does not install everything, importantly things like openbox and lxsession are missing, so I uninstalled lx* everything via Software Centre then closed it, started synaptic and picked the lx* packages that looked important, when I p...

Re: LXDE missing from session options in MDM

@Flemur, there is nothing in that post to help me, is says the same as mine but with no resolution.

Been hunting around and I think there should be some .desktop files for LXDE and/or Openbox in /usr/share/xsessions, just need to find out what they should be.

[Solved] LXDE missing from session options in MDM

Hi, Rather than install Lubuntu-desktop (and all the baggage that comes with it) I thought I'd have a look at vanilla LXDE for and older PC, so I installed Mint 18 Cinnamon 64bit, installed all the updates, then LXDE from the software manager, when I logout/reboot I cannot choose LXDE at logon as i...

Re: Font Size Too Small in Mint 18 (Thunar)

got it, in Settings > Appearance > Fonts, untick "Custom DPI Setting" (which was set to 96 DPI). It seems by default it is forced to 96 DPI which is wrong for my resolution (1280x720), and seems some apps use this and make the fonts appear proportional to it, so unticking it causes it to use the rea...

Re: Font Size Too Small in Mint 18 (Thunar)

Following on from my post above I discovered something interesting, it seems I may have figured it out by accident, this is a new build and as I have been trying to get the video to play the best I've been trying different drivers, when I changed from nVidia-304 to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau drivers...

Re: Font Size Too Small in Mint 18 (Thunar)

I have the same problem, Thunar doesn't seem to be using the default font set in Appearance, I have 2 windows open side by side, (see pic) right is thunar on my profile (font is too small), left is gksu thunar so using root profile (font is the correct size), both are set to "zoom normal". So I am a...

scrolling

this is bugging me, it seems to have appeared in Mint 18 (I'm running Cinnamon 64bit), on any window with scroll bars on the right hand side when I click above or below the slider it jumps to where I clicked whereas before it only moved one page, how do I change this behaviour? I can't see anything ...

Nemo 3.0.6 on Mint 18 [solved]

in Nemo on Mint 17 I used right click "Copy to >" a lot in dual pane mode to copy between folders, in Mint 18 it has disappeared and is only on the "Edit" main menu option, any chance it can be reinstated or at least made a preference or is there a way I can do it

Re: I miss Compact Classic theme on Firefox, so....

so I've just installed Linux Mint 18 and copied over my .mozilla folder and when I started Firefox all the bookmark bar icons are spread out unlike before so how to get rid of all that pesky space, after quite a bit of fiddling about with bookmark-item margins I settled for this. toolbarbutton { fon...
