Re: Ninjavideo won't work

Here are the steps (as they differ a little compared to those for Ubuntu, as Ubuntu uses totem as the multimedia player for firefox): 1. Close Firefox 2. Open synaptic package manager 3. Find the "gecko-mediaplayer" and uninstall it 4. Install "mozilla-mplayer" 5. Log out of your linux session and l...

Re: Ninjavideo won't work

Okay, updating my own thread. Finally got things to work. What is required is the mplayer plugin...not gecko. Apparently it is a known issue with gecko, but no resolution yet. I had some settings clicked incorrectly in the mplayer preferences, and once I got things set up right, I could play video f...

Re: Ninjavideo won't work

Flash works....was hoping to use the divx feed. The flash stream only allows 75 min of viewing before timing out and making you wait for an hour or so before being able to view any more. There are no time limits on the divx feed. Edit: flash is hosted by megavideo (reason for time limit) while divx ...

Solved - Ninjavideo won't work

Hey everyone. Been dabbling in linux off and on for a while and have found Mint8 to be far superior than any previous version I've tried on my T61 (especially in battery life). I've overcome a lot of little quirks, but this latest one has me stumped. I use Ninjavideo from time to time to watch the o...

Re: After Upgrade to Felicia still Elyssa Menu

I actually formatted my Elyssa install, but kept my home directory intact (separate partition), and I ran into this Elyssa menu thing.

Daryna Cisco VPN

Hey all. I am in the process of trying to get linux to connect to my company's VPN. Now, my company's IT told me to use Cisco's VPN client. Of course, he handed me an XP copy and sent me on my way with the settings (he has no idea about anything in Linux). So, I went home and installed the Cisco VPN...

Re: Daryna: Stuck application launch menu

Okay, I'll post a reply to my own topic. Seemed that the menu was stuck in some sort of editing mode or something. Here's what I did to fix it (in case anyone else runs into this). I noticed that there was an extra side pane on the left of mint menu. By playing around and clicking here and there, I ...

[solved] Daryna: Stuck application launch menu

Hey there everyone. Played with Daryna a few months ago and went over to Hardy Heron (I had some issues with mint at the time). After playing with Hardy, I'm back to Mint and am patiently awaiting Elyssa. I've gotten everything pretty much set up the way I want it, but I'm having an issue with the a...

Re: Is that wise ?

I have been trying out various linux distros over the past little while. Tried SUSE, but too big for my liking. I tried Ubuntu (Gutsy), and it kind of worked, but wasn't a slam dunk. Then I tried Mint. So, things worked out of the box, but I still had some issues here and there: especially regarding...

Re: When is the next version of Linux Mint coming out?

They are actually expecting it to release "shortly" after Hardy goes to final release. Right now, I'm planning on mid-May, but am hoping to see the new Linux Mint in the first full week of May.

Re: Wireless works...but slower than XP

I've tried the tests over at dslreports a few times, and windows is consistently faster than linux. I've done some mucking around with settings, though and haven't tested in a bit. Will try to see if the differences still remain.

Re: Wireless works...but slower than XP

Labfreak: have you looked around at any of the writeups on the net? First, I would look into dissabling IPV6 on your system. From what I've seen, Linux Mint might actually come with it blacklisted. Secondly, I would use ndiswrapper, and try using windows drivers which you know work. This is easily d...

Re: Wireless works...but slower than XP

No proprietary connection manager in XP. Just use windows zero. There is a fair distance between me and the access point. If it would be the same speed in both OSs, I'd be okay. Just wondering why there is such a drop in speed with linux compared to XP. If I could figure this point out, I'd be reall...

Re: Wireless works...but slower than XP

As a little bit of further information, I have dissabled ipv6 on the system a while ago. Just went back to check it last night, and it is indeed dissabled (blacklisted). In XP, my downloads through my browser get as high as 500 kB/sec. Newsgroups get up to 1MB/sec. In linux, it's about half those sp...

Wireless works...but slower than XP

Hey there everyone! I've been trying Linux for about 10 years now, but have always given up in frustration. I started hearing about Linux Mint, and I have to say I am really impressed. Everything worked on my system out of the box. I've been playing around with various software, either the native li...
