Re: [SOLVED] Manufacturer affirms that cannot release Linux driver due to copyright. How is that possible?

The drivers probably contain elements of proprietary code from Microshaft. Thats one of the reasons they are shunned by many. Its a disgusting practice and a very short sighted decision by Sony.

IF you have ProjectM Pulseaudio installed it will work with any sound going through the system. I use it with Audacious.

Re: Processor Upgrades

High tech thermal grease is a load of hogwash as far as everyday use is concerned.
I use plain Silicon grease and have never had a temp. problem.
I have even used copper grease but got a bit concerned 'cause Copper do be conductive!! :?

Re: Can't get nvidia settings to stick.

You are running the" Nvidia x-server settings" prog. as root are you?
It will not save the settings if you run as "user".

Try ProjectM-pulseaudio. Works with anything that passes sound through pulseaudio.

Re: Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon - M Audio Audiophile 2496

Regardless of other hardware I have only ever been able to control my M-Audio card or my Terratec DMX after installing the Envy24/Mudita software to push the hardware volume controls up. It's one of the first things I do after a fresh install (I dont bother with upgrade). Is there another way to ach...

Pro "Apps"

Wow! Now you can get an "app" (that word sends shivers down my spine) to help you write Emails like a Pro. REALLY? How the hell does a "Pro" (another shiver) write Emails?? Whats next,a "pro-app" (double shiver) to help users use a "pro-email writer app" (thats it I;m done, cant stop shaking. Think I...

Hardware sub-headings

I see that this (Hardware) section has three additional sub-headings for "mounting Partitions" ,"Printers and Scanners" , and "Graphics cards & Monitors". Given the problems that I have uncovered while researching my own very troubled use of a Gigabyte AMD M'board, would it not be useful to have a Mo...

Re: Internet firms 'should retain users' data'

(UK) ISP throughput is already monitored for Keywords and Images. Try including a "keyword" in every email and post you make and you will eventually get a visit!

Re: Cloud Storage

I have never understood the "Cloud" --it just appears to be a (yet another) way of prising open wallets. They should have called it the "Sewer". Then we could all throw our money down the "Toilet". Why do we need someone else to look after our "Digital Stuff". We have usb HDD's and SSD's and thumb d...

Re: USB 3 ports not recognised in Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon

I have the same Mobo, had similar problem.- Damn Gigabyte. The problem lies with a BIOS setting and not your kernel. IOMMU Enabled results in no usb3--IOMMU disabled results in no usb2 or LAN. The trick is to connect Mouse and keyboard to usb2 only. Enable IOMMU. When booted up you need to add the fo...
