Re: pc and mint

Before buying any new equipment install mate or xfce versions of mint 17 and c how that works. Cinnamon needs 3d aceleration to work xfce and mate not so much. I have an old acer aspire one, dual core 1 gig of ram and flash plays great.
I use mate.

I think chrome might be able to do it. Google does flash now so it might be able to play these things.

Re: Mint 17 Mate vs. Ubuntu-Mate

The biggest thing is that mint 17 is an lts and the new ubuntu mate isnt. I have played with it some and it seemed to work ok. It has all the usual buntu stuff on it. I honestly like mints implementation of it better, it just looks more like what i remember of gnome 2.

For that matter windows xp,me, 98se os 7,8,9 and so on. Just use those they should work just as well as an oudated version of mint. Then go to there forums and ask them why you can't update and explain to them some third party software downloaded it for you and since itdid you need to support it and...

Re: Tech Entusiast with ONE Question!

Best way is to download them all and try them out. Cinnamon is a nice modern desktop as is kde. Mate is a fork of an older projeck called gnome2 and as such looks a little dated but is actually a great desktop. Xfce what can i say, its a fast desktop that uses less resources than the others but can ...

my research says that is an old nvidia tnt2 m64 if that is the case you would probably be better off just using the drivers supplied with mint, here is a link to the legacy driver on the nvidia web site. http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/35626/en-us use at your own risk. be sure to k...

Re: What to Install - Mint 17 Qiana Cinnamon or MATE?

Depending on your hardware either one is a good choice. Just download both and burn them to a dvd or a usb drive and take them for a ride and see wich one you like better. I personally like cinnamon but its heavier on resourses.

Re: Please give me decent reason to stick with Linux

Clementine is a really good music player and has an eq feature built into it.
Sadly gaming still isnt on par with windows but is getting better with steam.
I have never had a problem with themes for firefox.

Passwords aren't useless they are there for security. If you want a linux distro that dosent ask for alot of passwords use one the run's as root. Or figure out how to run as root on the one your using. I'm not going to tell you how but a quick google search should give you what your looking for. Hav...

Re: How to speed Cinnamon up.. or Chrome?

Just install the mate or xfce desktops in your current install. My experience with anything built on top of gnome 3 is it does tend to slow down and cinnamon is still under heavy development so there could still be problems. I just use the software manager and do a search for them and install what i...

Re: "Best Linux Mint to install?"

Well they are all stable other wise they wouldnt have been released. I'm thinking that the xfce version might be better since it uses less of the gnome 3 stuff in it. I'm not an expert just a casual user but if you give us more info like what the specs on it some one will be able to come along and h...

Re: Think some hardware might have died

Before you go tossing that ram givving you a problem take a rubber eraiser to the contacts on it then try it again. Sometimes they just get dirty and need to be cleaned. Be sure to clean it well before reinstalling it. This has saved me a little cash in the past.
