Re: display problems

Booted from live Mint 18.3 DVD - same problem. Unplugged everything and started testing peripherals one at a time. Problem item - receiver for wireless mouse. The problem had persisted when I switched original mouse off and used a different mouse, but was resolved by removing the receiver. So...

Yes, still no change. Could it be a hardware issue?

Kernel query (Solved)

I have a ten year old laptop with a core2duo T7100 processor and a fast ssd. Mint 18.1, 18.2 & 18.3 all run very well as long as I use a 8.4 series kernel. 18,2 with its native 8.8 series kernel, and 18.3 with an 8.10 kernel were unusable. Serious lag on both keyboard and mouse inputs, very slow boo...

ethernet disconnect [solved]

I bought a new computer with both ethernet and WiFi. I installed Mint 18.2 64bit cinnamon and it updated over the ethernet connection with no problem.I subsequently initiated the WiFi (D-Link DWA-582) but this has stopped the ethernet from working even when the WiFi is switched off. Is there a comma...

Re: bios update

Thank you for the good advice. The reason for updating the bios is that I plan to replace the 5400rpm hard disk with a modern SSD (240GB Samsung 850 EVO). I am uncertain whether the original 2007 bios would provide the best performance.

[solved] bios update

I have a Dell Vostro 1400 laptop and replaced the horrible Vista OS with Linux many years ago. I wish to update the bios, but Dell offer only an .exe file for flashing the bios. How should I proceed?

Thanks, Pjotr, I will give the 64 bit a try. I have made dvds of both, so I can always change back if I hit any problems.

Re: low RAM

The 17.3 release announcement states "The 64-bit ISO is recommend for all modern computers (Almost all computers sold in the last 10 years are equipped with 64-bit processors)." Perhaps this should be amended to clarify that it only applies to computers with 4 GB RAM or more?

Re: Low SSD performace

The performance of your drive may be limited by the interface. If your computer has SATA2 you will not realise the full potential of a SATA3 drive.

Transmission uses its own checksum algorithm. You need to use terminal to generate the proper checksum.
