Re: Mate application names

Thanks for the answer. I think you slightly misunderstood my question. My problem is BECAUSE I have shared home directories and multiple systems to run gnome3 and mate. My problem is with applications that also "know" which application to use to open a file. I have this in my .profile if [...

Mate application names

I have a hard remembering if I should invoke gedit or pluma, atril or evince. What is worse, my applications, like "perforce" have trouble knowing if they should use gedit or pluma. Has mate any planned solutions (like /etc/alternatives) to normalise the old gnome names depending which des...

Re: Patch: fix multimedia keys (play/pause etc) in MATE desk

I was so hoping for the last year that Mint 14 would fix this - sad that it hasn't.

However, http://pastebin.com/N0Jv2W5Y works well for me on Mint 14

Thanks!

Re: auto-nfs and ldap for roaming laptops

I think:

man dhclient-script
is going to be the answer and is the place where I can customize some of this.

auto-nfs and ldap for roaming laptops

I have some laptops which use NFS for home directories, and now recently also ldap for account management. When the laptops are roaming away from the network I have to first login as root on a text console and stop autofs from running, and now I also have to edit nsswitch.conf to disable ldap as a r...

Re: [SOLVED]Can't log into Gnome mint 13

I solved it by purging all packages that had "virtualbox" in the name AND by explicitly selecting MATE as my session instead of "last session" I don't know why that kast step was needed as I didn't have any other sessions enabled anyway. I also reversed some changes I ahd recentl...

Re: FIX FILE SHARING!!!

I just opened a terminal window while using mate, and typed "nautilus $HOME"

I was then able to navigate and share the folder I wanted to share from my mate session

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

At me it just works. I don't have problems with the calendar's font. Perhaps you need to install a graphics driver? If I change the Shell Theme to Default instead of Mintz then all looks fine. Nope... if I login with it set to Default it looks bad unless I I change to Mintz and then it looks fine. ...

Corrupt fonts with 12 RC

I have corrupt fonts in the gnome shell showing on a fresh installation with no 3rd party drivers. Sometimes fonts show fine, sometimes a few characters are bad and sometimes text doesn't display at all. corrupt-font.png In this screenshot, the title bar shows no text, but the drop-down shows some c...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

I also tested the 32bit DVD version and the only problem is that I can't login into Mate. The 32bit CD version doens't have mate so in that version I found no problem so far and in only requires 3.5GB instead of 5.6GB of disk space to install. Edit 1: on the 32bit CD mint4win worked but the "A...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

So is it possible to download an ISO and start testing? Or do we have to wait until testing is completed by someone else?

Wider Graphic Support for Mint

Here are two recent slashdot stories which could lay the path for opening Mint to a wider class of users. This one to allow gnome3 for users without 3D graphics cards. http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/11/11/06/1743257/gnome-shell-no-longer-requires-gpu-acceleration And this one to allow 3D acceler...
