Re: Unofficial LMDE KDE Live DVD: final UP4 version - 201207

First, I am glad to see some one take up a true DebMint edition... interested to give it a spin.... while Debian posses issues * for me for the way I use and operate, it will be intersting to see how this works out... I ultimately chose to go a different route and spin my own distro for my own needs...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

A lack of iso speaks volumes... How long should it take for Boo to put everything together so that an iso can be made available? I will shed some light on *my* experience... it takes about 4-5 hours to install the upstream ISO, then go around and pull in the various bits and pieces that are needed ...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

If you want to move to another distro then fine, that is your choice but please to not go round saying the mint team cannot be taken at their word with no evidence to back it up. No, I agree 100% with the assessment by Fandango. The evidence you want is in this forum, lack thereof, and on the blog ...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

The only thing I see people getting hung up on from time to time is Activities. Well I guess since I don't use the non traditional desktop or anything associated with it, I don't know what they do. I know there is something in the kicker bar, that I removed, said something about activities or somet...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

The major issue with Kubuntu is following 3: 1. the KCM-grub2 is not included as default. Noted, will add to JL, good call this should be in there.... hmmm..anything else missing? 2. unless you remove the autoboot default item after xxx seconds or hold "SHIFT", the grub menu cannot be displayed :oo...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

I think there are some misunderstanding about the concept of "desktop" in KDE4. The KDE4 try to redefine the "desktop". Now everything controlled by "plasma". And application shortcuts should be add to one of the "plasma applet", you will see, you can auto-arrange your shortcuts/icons inside the pl...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

First off have you got Kubuntu 11.10? Well sort of, I have Julep Linux Alpha 1 :D which is Kubuntu 11.10, have been testing upstream base since alpha 3 on daily builds. You have always been able to just right click and put icon on the desktop. If you do that now then the icon won't snap to a grid. ...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

I find it baffling why KDE/Kubuntu go to extraordinary lengths at times to bury such simple features which you would assume ought to be standard. Such as? It's puzzling why the Snap Icon to Grid feature only works in Folder View mode I would hazard a guess that in the view of the KDE Devs it doesn'...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

much about "activities" so the bump from 4.6.5 to 4.7 doesn't make much a difference to me. When it comes down to it, differences in KDE were minimal between the distros - the main difference is the distro and its tools that KDE is sitting on top of. Kubuntu ran far heavier than all but Sabayon, Ca...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

KDE 4.6 is totally reliable and rock solid in Mint 10, I can't speak for Suse as I don't use it. As the resident KDE 4.x basher, 4.6.x is what got KDE back on track, reliable, and solid. I won't go "rock solid" as there are minor issues, and *I* have issues with some of the decisions KDE as a whole...

Re: Is It Ever Going To Happen

I've going to take Colyn's advice and switch to kubuntu Wow, the barely 7-month old Linux Mint 10 KDE is that torturous? :) I have no issue with it..... but.... THE FUTURE... is what I am looking at... I am planning for down the road, and based on the past few months... that path and KMint are not ...

HOWTO: HPLIP - Keep it current

HOWTO keep your HPLIP current, so you can pretty much use any HPLIP compatible device, and unless its so new that the HP team has not had a chance to update things, you should be good. Once you've done the requiste install of HPLIP-GUI (the base files are there on KMint, the GUI is not for some reas...

Re: Mint 11 KDE development

Your logic regarding Canonical's work basically infers that no one should even bother attempting it, because of the sheer size of work invested and scope of their operation. We should accept the shortcomings of whatever direction they've chosen for their system simply because there are still many g...

Re: Mint 11 KDE development

So either wait for 4.7.1 to be released to release an operating system overall, or work with the incredibly stable 4.6.3 (.4 pretty soon) until 4.7.1 hits the testing repos? Sounds like you're waiting either way ... At this point in the release cycle may as well wait for 4.7.0 to be released. Thats...

Re: Mint 11 KDE development

Well older programmes are not an issue if their bugs are getting patched. if not, then they are indeed useless. Well lets look at KDE to start, its way behind in Debian. 4.7. is about to be released, and any KMint or KDebMint released should wait till then, even if you wait till the .1 to clear up ...

Re: Mint 11 KDE development

Whatever you decide, keep it stable. This will attract users who don't like to be an object of experiment. Well expressed! That would be a good route to go... Either : 1) Skip a full blown Kataya release, and create a ALPHA KDebMint for testing... 2) Create BOTH a STABLE/NORMAL Kataya KMint release...

Re: Mint 11 KDE development

Obviously we have very different experiences and different expectations. Which is fine, to each their own. However, that doesn't change the fact that this change came largely out of left field and there hasn't been (to my knowledge) any explanation given for the switch. I don't like that an upgrade...
