Slow Boot Problem.

I upgraded my system and installed an M.2 SSD with a pcie-x1 card. SInce the motherboard didn't have a native M.2 slot. Sooooo. The system boots really slowly. I checked the boot.log and found that apparently, it's checking the entire disk on every boot. Do I need to set some option TRIM or somethin...

Thank you kind sir

Thanks very much.
That will tide me over until the fix is live.
I gave Ubuntu 20.04 a try last night to see if they had it fixed, and no.
But at least a fix is in the pipe.
I hate to carry USB sticks around.

BTW, Linux system can share with each other

So, Windows can share with Linux, and Linux can share with Linux. But Linux cannot share with Windows. Visibility is completely Transitive, but ability to mount drives to read / write them is not transitive. So is this called a Transitivity Failure? Or a Reciprocity Failure? Anyway, I sure would lik...

Samba woes: Failed to retrieve share list from server [SOLVED]

Windows 10 and Linux Mint 19.3 in a network. Windows 10 has whole drives shared Read Only by everyone. LM 19 has some shares writeable by guest anonymous. Windows 10 systems can see LM19 shares and write files to them. LM19 can see Windows 10 nodes, but cannot see shares. Error is: Unable to Mount L...

Disable Background Image

On a VM the background image is a little glitchy. I'd like to go to a plain black. LM 19.3 Cinnamon running on VirtualBox with Win 10 host [and RTX 2060 card if that matters] with 2K monitor. Anyway, previous posts, for example, from 2013. I won't quote the other one from 2011 but it's wrong too. ht...

Re: How to pin shortcut-buttons to the "Panel" taskbar and "Desktop"

I may have found an easier way, on Mint 19.1 Cinnamon: Run the app. Right-click the apps icon on the taskbar (or panel thingie) and select "Pin". Done. Mint 19.3 Cinnamon - No such option when I right click. I can't find Move to Panel anywhere except in a rclick menu inside the START MENU or whatev...

Re: Auto Volume Control

Wow. Thanks. I'll give that a try tomorrow.
It really was rocket science!
I guess the nice folks over at Pulse Audio Development might consider making that all a check box for "Enable Constant Volume".

Thanks again

Re: Auto Volume Control

Check this post by rene for a normalization option. Super. Thanks. But, in spite of the fact that I truly am a Rocket Scientist - or at least a Computer Scientist - I can't find the answer to my question here. Are you saying that if I install this Pulse Audio Equalizer that I can just click some bu...

Auto Volume Control

I'm using Linux Mint as a "Media" system and watching Youtube, Twitch and other VideoCasts [Podcast shall be deprecated in this post.]. And the problem is that none of these and the ads they embed, can agree on how much Volume to put out. I'm not sure if what I want is called AGC - auto gain control...

Never mind - I think

Apparently one of the Display Controller choices is going to be broken. VMSVGA with 3D acceleration will be supported, apparently. And it works now. However VBOXVGA is going away? A link to an article would be helpful. But if you choose VBOXSVGA, as I did, the whole thing is so slow it can't be used...

3D Acceleration on VirtualBOX

Ok Ok. I know that Virtualbox is not hardware, but I didn't see another place to put this. Feel free to move it if I missed where it goes. As of VirtualBox 6.0, apparently a warning now has started saying that 3D acceleration is disappearing and that your system won't boot sometime in the near futur...

LM 19 Installer Bad Graphics on GTX 1050

I have a Core i5-4570 with GTX 1050 connected to a Vizio 4K TV for display. Works fine with LM 18.3 using nviida-384 driver. I use it in 1080 HD however since 4K support is not really there. Can't make text / panel big enough to read even on 65" TV. So fine. Works great. Just tried to install LM 19 ...

Windows 10 just works out of the box

I'm a long time Linux Mint lover. For 8 or 10 years now I've been building LM systems and using LM in VMs for safer internet usage. But, it's too much work to get this going. I installed Windows 10 from a stick on this system and it came up with a 1024x768 display, and then loaded the right driver i...

Samsung UN40MU6300 in 4K on Windows 10

With the long HDMI cable I connected the TV to the Windows 10 / GTX 1060 card. It came right up in 4K. At first the display settings on Win 10 showed 3840x2160 30Hz, but the deeper dive showed "List All Modes" and 60Hz was there. On setting 3840x2160x60 hz the TV is quite happy and Win 10 settings n...

Re: Suggestions

roblm: You ask: Unless the 3840x2160 at 60 Hz mode is listed in the xrandr --prop output or Xorg.0.log when using the MiniDisplayport connection. When using the MiniDP <> HDMI adapter, neither "4k" mode appears in the LM Display settings. The maximum rez reported is 1920x1080. Since the display is s...
