Ok final post
I solved the issue by opening Desktop Settings and changing the window manager from xfwm4+compositing to xfwm4+compton

Re: Ugly line across screen
Hi Guys I discovered the problem 2 minutes after posting, it's being caused by Cairo Dock, which of course isn't active on the login screen, when I disable cairo dock the line disappears, at this point I'm not sure whether the problem is Cairo Dock itself or maybe the compositor, but I've always use...

(SOLVED) Ugly line across screen
Hi Guys I've just recently installed Mint XFCE 20.02 and I got to say loving it, but since installing I noticed a thin dark line running across the full width of the screen about an inch and a half from the bottom, at first I put it down to my monitor and thought little of it until I installed it on...

Re: Why Mint 14 should rock more than it actually does
There is the main problem to me : can you say the 'distro will only get better' when you experience so many regressions as listed above ? Yes , the system has improved in itself, that's my opinon too. But attention to small details can make big differences and shouldn't be neglected. For the most p...

Re: Why Mint 14 should rock more than it actually does
I've had quite a few annoyances as well since upgrading (or downgrading however you want to look at it) to Mint 14 but I accept that Cinnamon & Nemo are both still in early development, smb is a problem for me as well, streaming video from a network share has been at best a joke, I posted the pr...

Re: Cannot install ubuntuone
Hi again
That sorted it thank you, What I don't understand is I had already installed ubuntuone-control-panel-qt from synaptic and it didn't show up in the menu and since running from the terminal it is showing, anyway the important thing is it's working.
Many thanks
Graeme

Code: Select all
Why did they ( and I'm guessing this was done by our Gnome Overlords ) do this? Because they can.
Many thanks

Re: What do you not like about Cinnamon?
The only complaints I have is the menu button delay (I've counted up to 3 seconds on occasions) it really is quite annoying and places disappearing form the menu list, other than that I think it's a great DE that can only get better

Re: Login for Children
Do you know of a good internet filter ? I don't know much about internet filters, I'm generally with her when she's on the PC so I've never felt there was any need for a filter, It also depends what browser you're using, I remember using a chrome extension called chrome nanny or something like that...

Re: Login for Children
I'm glad to hear someone else doing this, I done the same thing for my 5 year old Grand-Daughter and she has a lot of fun with it Computers are a huge part of our lives and I thought it would be a good idea to introduce her early and with Linux, You'll be amazed how quick they learn, I installed Min...

Re: why you switched to linux ?
My initial reason was purely curiosity, I installed Ubuntu just to see what it was all about and because I was bored, and no it wasn't an easy ride but I stuck with it and eventually curiosity led to a better understanding of not only how a computer works but more importantly for me a better underst...

Re: How I Destroyed Mint Linux!
I've lost count of how many times I've screwed up an operating system, Windows & linux, I just can't leave things alone, especially with Linux because there's so much more you do with it, consequently so much more to screw up, My philosophy seems to be if it aint broken break it, How else do I l...

Re: Newbie can't set up an internet connection
Hi Raven I'm really struggling with this, but firstly do you have any other devices connected to your router and if so are they working ? if not it might be a good idea to reboot your router and try again, also you should have a network icon on your panel if you have open it up and make sure wired a...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
I am probably the perfect example of an average user, I'm 52 year old I didn't do computing at school PC's weren't around then, but when they did come around (maybe the late 1990's for me)I was still young enough to learn new tricks and the only option was Windows I remember booting up my first PC a...

Re: Newbie can't set up an internet connection
Hi Raven No need to apologise for "noobness" (I hate that word don't you) I'm kinda new to all this myself so I'm a little bit out of my depth here, but it seems to me the answer to your problem is in the link you posted, did you try connecting via ethernet and downloading the driver from ...
