Re: [SOLVED] Synaptic and Update Managers screwed in UP5

Hi All, Had the same problem and the tip from Xenopeek did the job for the better part. After I applied the "sudo rm ..." and the "sudo update..." I got this error: W: GPG error: http://mintlinux.mirror.triple-it.nl nadia Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 3EE...

Re: Copy to USB devices slow and problematic

Hi Grizwald,

Welcome to the club.

AFAIK it should be fixed with kernel 3.3. Correct me if I am wrong.

Let's wait and see.

Other than that Mint rocks :D

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Currently using Gnome with Cairo Dock. Been using it for years with Ubuntu untill they decided to go Unity, which might be good but I personally don't like it. Got over here to Mint and used it with the default DE but could not stop myself from using Cairo Dock. Checked out the other options and onl...

Re: Copy to USB devices slow and problematic

 Wow, this sucks. I too am having the same problem with mint 9x64. How is it that such basic, basic functions can be handled so badly? Ubuntu now sucks and it seems that Mint is no better. Taking over 2 hours to transfer 7.3gigs to a 8gig stick (fat32). USB2 not USB1. What is up? Will we ever ...

Re: Copy to USB devices slow and problematic

Hi moonmopus, I am glad at least this thread is getting some attention  It warms the heart to know I am not alone. I too do not wish to return to Windows (it does have it's strong points but I prefer Linux) and am appearantly willing to "suffer" the copying problem. Since there seems...

Re: Copy to USB devices slow and problematic

Hi Detonate, I tried this: sudo cp * /dev/sdi1 from within the folder of the files I want to copy. Note that sdi1 is the USB device I want to use. I get this response: cp: target `/dev/sdi1' is not a directory So next I issued this command: sudo cp * /media/KINGSTON It is still copying as I type. So...

Re: Copy to USB devices slow and problematic

Hi Detonate, Thanks for your interest in our problem. Just tried to copy files as sudo using gksu nautilus It still takes about 1.5 to 2 minutes to start the copy of a file after the previous one has been comleted. Although it does look better (copying continues) it still takes ages to complete the ...

soulrain wrote:When is that next kernel due out?
Hi soulrain,

I expect the new kernel (3.2) to be out in April 2012. Most probably the end of April.

I Like your workaround but it does not work for me (Win 7 64bit in a VirtualBox 4.1.8)

Re: Copy to USB devices slow and problematic

Hi soulrain, No concensus as far as I am concerned. I would prefer to stay with Minty if I can. It seems to be solved in the next Ubuntu release (12.04?) with kernel 3.2.0. At least that's what I read here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/500069/comments/51 I am not enough of a ...

Re: Copy to USB devices slow and problematic

Hi All Troubled Souls  Found this is a long running bug in Ubuntu. Philinux (from that "other" forum) pointed me to launchpad where I added myself as being affected by this bug. Please visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/500069 , register if needed and add your...

Re: Copy to USB devices slow and problematic

Well, I have tried a Live CD from OpenSuse 12.1 (KDE). And lo and behold!! Copying just worked. OK, it was not at blazing speed (avg 10 MiB/sec) but still.....it did what it had to do. So no BIOS setting or hardware defect is causing this. And on a side note, Dolphin looked great compared to Nautilu...

Re: Copy to USB devices slow and problematic

Hi Core Dumped, Welcome to the club  Maybe I will try a completely different distro (Suse i.e.) with a live CD to see if that will do the trick. But in the meantime I have some information to add to my first post. Who knows....maybe some Guru will stumble by and can use the information :) Outp...

Re: Howto replace all Gnome 3 panels with the AWN dock

Hi Guys,

Never Mind:)

Installed Compizconfig-settings-manager from the repo's and activated the "Application Switcher" in the CompizConfig Settings Manager. All is well now :D

HTH anyone who has similar problems after applying the how-to from kliz.

Hi bicky,

ROFLMAO. Thanks for your solution (LOL) but the reason for my post was that djk says it should be done graphically but nobody seems to know how. It certainly did not work for you and me (and a bunch of others) so I was just curious as to how he'd done that.
