Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING [13-06-13]

Ok, I think it should look something like this:

Code: Select all

#loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

#primary network interface
auto eth0
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING [13-06-13]

OK, configuring the network from the command line is mostly done through the /etc/network/interfaces file. We should see what the contents are currently first: cat /etc/network/interfaces You should even be able to connect to your network using something like this (without further info this is hard;...

Re: LMDE Breakages (Tracking SID) May 7, 2013

2 Find Crossover debs for Ubuntu Quantal. Normally no one here would suggest using Ubuntu debs on a Debian system, but in this case it might work. Or it might cause havoc, make sure you read what it wants to do before pressing Y. Quantal matches Sid reasonably well, or try Raring. You have to match...

Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING [03-05-13]

Well, wheezy's been released. Packages have started migrating again to Testing. One of these is muffin/nemo version 1.7.x. Cinnamon hasn't migrated because it is only 9 days old: http://packages.qa.debian.org/c/cinnamon.html . So, depending on your apt pinning, you may be upgraded to Debian's Cinnam...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jan 2, 2013

While this may cause some problems for all of us eventually (regardless of which branch you're tracking, although I believe, with Mint's apt pinning, it shouldn't be too much of a problem for Latest/Incoming), I'm glad nemo finally entered Debian (it makes cinnamon more accessible for Debian users a...

HÉ HÉ....as I found nowhere to post for this.... I suggest OVHELIA for Linux Mint 15 xfce It's a name that does not exist, or may be it does, but I think it's nicer than OLIVIA on it's own...or OPHELIA a little bit too Orwelian.... OVHELIA as this advantage of the OVE, (promess of an hatching egg) ...

Re: Anyone tried Gnome3 lately ?

The typewriter died when was born the PC. The PC is dying, being replaced by laptop/netbook. Soon the netbook will die and we will have only tablets in the world. Maybe... What functionality did the typewriter have that the PC didn't have? Radios weren't replaced by TVs, but complimented by them. R...

Re: firefox in mint 14 is a bad idea

I'll have to update when I get a chance. I'm running 19.0 on 3 of my installs, iceweasel 19.0.2 my pure Debian install, and 19.0.2 on my Arch install. I haven't played around with 19.0.2 much, though.

Re: Keep LMDE stable

Ok and thank you for all the information and it is not a problem to use icedove or thunderbird as long I can get my emails. The update of the repos went fine and I had only to reinstall grub but there are two problems which I have to solve (maybe I should start another thread) - in setting/power I ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jan 2, 2013

Wow, that steam thing sucks :( . Is it possible to modify the package (extract it and then make it a .deb again) so it doesn't depend on jockey? It's interesting that cinnamon 1.7 is in both Debian Sid and Arch considering its a dev release (I get that they are the newest stuff, but usually the stuf...

Re: Keep LMDE stable

The reason for the two removed is because the mint meta package depends on thunderbird, and the Debian version of hunspell (the dictionary/spell checker) conflicts with Mint's thunderbird. Debian has thunderbird "renamed" as icedove (long story), and it works with hunspell, so you can inst...

You can do this. It would require editing your /etc/apt/sources.list as root: deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ wheezy main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org wheezy/updates main contrib non-free deb http://www.deb-multim...

Re: Linux Mint Main Edition Continuing Xfce?

LMDE did drop Xfce (the KDE version never was official). Originally, Mint Xfce was switching completely to the Debian base (around the time of Mint 10/11 IIRC). Then the Ubuntu-based Mint Xfce came back with Mint 13, and LMDE Xfce was dropped recently. With Gnome 3.8, Gnome Classic in its current fo...

Does this affect i386? Right now my only Sid install is running on i386. So far I haven't had a problem with any upgrades, and I believe python still works.
