Really slow login screen MacBookPro+VirtualBox + Quina

I just installed Linux Mind Cinnamon 64-bit onto a VirtualBox on my MacBook Pro. When using the live DVD session, the desktop was very responsive. After doing a proper install of LM17 into the VM, the Cinnamon desktop is also quite responsive once I've logged in. The problem is that the login screen...

How stop Mint-branded Google in Chromium?

I'm using the Chromium browser in 64-bit Mint 14 (Nadia). When I enter something other than a URL into the location bar, the browser brings up a web page showing the results of a Google query on what I typed in. However, unlike in past versions of Ubuntu and Mint, the web page that comes up is Mint-...

What's in default sources.list file?

After a bunch of tweaks to my /etc/apt/sources.list file, I'm not sure its content is correct any more.

Could someone please point me to a pristine sources.list file, like I'd have if I did a totally fresh install from a Mint 13 (Ubuntu edition) DVD?

Re: Wireless network disabled at each login

I have the very same issue with an Intel Corporation Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300.

I could be wrong, but this seems to happen mostly (or always?) when on the previous booting of the laptop, I had WiFi disabled by the hardware switch.

Keyboard vol. control bound to wrong output device

I'm using Linux Mint 13 (Ubuntu-based) on a Dell M6500 laptop. The following issue occurs on all of the desktop environments I've tried: Cinnamon, Mate, Gnome Classic My laptop has two audio output devices: #1 = RV710/730 HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 4000 Series] Digital Stereo (HDMI) #2 = Built-in Audio A...

That's it! Thanks.

Kind of makes me miss dot files, though.

[SOLVED] How manually reset user's cinnamon settings?

I've somehow goofed up my account's Cinnamon settings. (I'm using Linux Mint 13, but it's an upgrade from Mint 12, and I retained the content of my ~ directory). Is there some set of files I can blow away, so that the next time I log into my account, I have a default Cinnamon configuration? find/gre...

Re: AMD vs Nvidia Linux Support

For what it's worth: About 2 years ago I bought a high-end Dell M6500 laptop, which has an AMD FirePro M7740 graphics chip. It was positioned by AMD and Dell as a workstation-class graphics chip. Performance-wise, the chip is great. However, starting with Ubuntu 11.10 and Mint 12 (Ubuntu), AMD's clo...

Re: Why can't install ia32-libs ?

I had no problem installing them but I downgraded to the 2.6.39.3 kernel due to the heat issue I had with the stock kernel. Do you have any of the KDE desktop installed? I noticed that some of the conflicts seemed related to KDE packages. No I don't christian Thanks. I'll try to purge my sys...

Re: Why can't install ia32-libs ?

The packages you are using would have to be built to suit the newer kernel, at least that is my guess. If they haven't been updated they will list that library as a dependency, even though they don't need it - they just don't know that they don't need it. At least that is my theory - I have been wr...

Re: Why can't install ia32-libs ?

Possibly because you no longer need it. I don't use Mint Main so I am not sure which kernel it is built on but as from kernel 3.04, 32bit applications run natively on 64bit installations without additional libraries. Thanks, but I don't think that's it. I'm installing .deb packages I just got from ...

Why can't install ia32-libs ?

I have what I *think* is a pretty vanilla installation of Linux Mint 12 (Ubuntu-based). But I'm unable to install the package "ia32-libs" (output shown below). Anyone know what I'm doing wrong, or how I fix this? cjc@cjc-laptop:~/packages$ sudo aptitude install ia32-libs The following NEW ...
