Re: Software Manager will not open[SOLVED]

You've made it more difficult (but not impossible) to load excessively bloated software in the future.

Stop using flatpak.
Get rid of it.
Not needed.

Re: Low CPU frequency and the laptop get slow

Your CPU will run at max speed, but if the fans can't keep stop it overheating, then it will reduce the frequency to reduce the power consumption.
Otherwise your CPU will overheat and do a hard shutdown.

try running inxi -sC to get a display of temperature/speed.

Re: Move from Linux Mint 20 to LMDE 4

Seem to remember just installing LMDE1 over the top of Ubuntu-ancient, keeping my /home directory but nothing else.
This was many years ago and it worked perfectly well.
I didn't really have too much in the way of application data, though.

Re: Strange UI of some applications

You can't - these are Qt5 programs, designed to look nice in KDE. But they are fully functional - just not using the Gtk interface, so you don't get the nice pretty themed layout. If you switched to a KDE desktop, I assume that they would look nice - but all your Gnome/Cinnamon stuff would suffer in...

Re: Warpinator 1.07 is broken

I can't see the point of Warpinator with its stack of dependencies. If you want to send a single file to a single local machine on a 1-off basis (assuming your LAN is reasonably secure) its quite possible to use netcat to do this. It works with any Linux - you are not limited to Mint/LMDE. Failing t...

Re: What is $HOME/.config/nemo/desktop-metadata for?

I've been digging around and it seems there's a bit of rubbish - but mostly every time you mount a non-fstab device such as a DVD or a camera or a named USB etc then an entry is generated in desktop-metadata that holds the name of the device and the coordinates of the icon on the Desktop. :x

What is $HOME/.config/nemo/desktop-metadata for? [SOLVED]

My $HOME/.config/nemo/desktop-metadata has hundreds of lines of sections referring to old "volumes". What does it all mean? e.g. ..... [LMDE 2 Cinnamon 64-bit.volume] nemo-icon-position=91,633 monitor=0 icon-scale=1 nemo-icon-position-timestamp=1526066229 [Debian 9.1.0 amd64 1.volume] nemo-icon-posi...

Routers are designed to be rebooted from time to time.
Why I never had to do that under Windows?
Ask whoever wrote the driver for Microsoft [Realtek?]

Re: HELP Linux LMDE 4 Storage Increase

It is possible - but not recommended. SD cards are not reliable enough for lots of read/write operations. Have you tried recovering space on your USB drive? Are you able to move any rarely accessed large user files to the SD card? Since you will be suffering from poor USB data speeds, you should get...

Re: Internet occasionally stops working on Linux Mint LMDE 4

I have virtually the same ethernet hardware - but its a totally stable connection - many months between drops. Same driver - slightly different firmware. I'd be tempted to blame the ISP - but do you have a flakey internet connection? Do speedtests show poor results [when its working] Also, what do y...

Re: MAC-address of wifi-adapters changed during installation of LMDE4

Seems unlikely. Your wi-fi/ethernet comes with a unique "burned-in" MAC address - its possible to override this with software in a number of different ways. Are you certain that LMDE3 didn't have a spoofed address? Note that restricting access by MAC won't offer any protection you from anything but ...

Re: How can I change Window backgrounds in LMDE?

I seem to have stirred up a hornets nest. Didn't mean to start a flame war. Anyway, I tried @smurphos instructions - but it didn't work for me. I'll settle for my current Cinnamon themes - its not worth the effort to modify for a minor background hue. :D So it seems that caja [Mate] is more fl...

Re: How can I change Window backgrounds in LMDE?

I shall investigate this detailed suggestion:- They are all third party themes but anything on Cinnamon Spices is vetted by a member of the Mint team. However you can't guarantee that third-party authors will consistently maintain them for ongoing compatibility with new releases. However major break...

Re: How can I change Window backgrounds in LMDE?

1. Are these other themes officially supported by Cinnamon - I don't want to use something that will foul up the next release of Cinnamon? 2. I like Mint-X as an icon theme, partly because Mint-Y uses the icon associated with digiKam [a huge application] for the screenshot program [a tiny program]. ...

Re: Debian_version

It doesn't matter what version of Debian you have - 10.2 is typical for LMDE4. If Debian release a point distribution, such as 10.4 etc, this is just 10.2 + updates, fixes etc. These will get installed by LMDE as a rolling update - but /etc/debian_version doesn't get changed. So long as you have ver...

Re: How can I change Window backgrounds in LMDE?

I wish it were that easy - must admit I ignored it on the upgrade. I can choose from a range of colours for folder style icons, but only bright white or almost black for the background on which the icons sit. So some progress - but the welcome screen changed my icon theme from Mint-X to Mint-Y - I e...

How can I change Window backgrounds in LMDE?
They are currently bright white, but I don't want to install a non-standard theme that does crazy things to my desktop:-
Current look (as an example):-
