Re: Remaster Tool for LMDE

Install LMDE in a VM - then you can mess with any/all settings as you like.

Re: Looking to switch from Manjaro to LMDE but need to be able to print to Brother MFC and Label maker(s)

LMDE4 is essentially Debian stable + Mint desktop (Cinnamon).
Do NOT install any Ubuntu .deb files (if at all possible) - you may run into horrible dependency problems!

Re: Boot up error, repetitive fs corruption

When you do a forced shutdown you are marking the file system as potentially damaged, requiring a fsck on the next power up.
When you switch off are you doing a controlled shutdown or just pressing the off button until it powers down?

The blue screen sounds like a m2 hardware problem?

Re: Wifi switch disabled

On laptops there is usually a Fn key to toggle the wifi on/off - something like Fn3 or there-abouts.

Re: LMDE4 Problem with Barrier

There is no etc/hosts folder
but there is a /etc/hosts file

It's just a list of ip addresses and corresponding domains.
One entry will be
127.0.0.1 localhost

Re: LMDE4 Problem with Barrier

How about putting the ip address and domain name in /etc/hosts - with luck Barrier will allow you to enter the domain name.

Actually, Barrier sounds similar to VNC - which has been available for many years.
VNC even allows a (short) password. :D

Re: Why would I want to use LMDE vs Current LM Cinnamon?

I use LMDE4 because Ubuntu have a history of changing things apparently just for the sake of change instead of usability. Basically, I got permanently distrustful of what Canonical do, so I'd rather that my PC is a Ubuntu-free zone. Before Mint/LMDE emerged, I did use Ubuntu - despite having to find...

Re: LMDE 4 Personal Snag List

If you want to install software, you wouldn't go to the software centre unless you wanted to get some opinions about the best one to use. You could just search for the virtualbox package in synaptic (or use apt or apt-get on the CLI). A .tar file is not compressed but a .tgz for example is compresse...

Re: LMDE 3 to reach EOL (End-Of-Life) on July 1st

It's not clear about the rolling thing.
I still got all Debian package updates + security fixes + occasional Cinnamon improvements.
At least until Debian released Buster.
Not rolling - but not static - what would you call that?

Re: Flatpack on LMDE4 [SOLVED]

find ~/.cache/thumbnails/ -type f -mtime +12 -exec rm {} \; is in my crontab for a once a day run - it removes all thumbnails more than 12 days old - so only the old stuff gets deleted. Very surprised to find 62 non-packages which seem to have been installed into LMDE3 (but never cleanly removed) -...

Re: Flatpack on LMDE4 [SOLVED]

Thanks for that - it seems that flatpak is gone!
Although I still have some rubbish in /var/lib/flatpak (mostly icons) - but I'll leave it alone since the software is now gone.

Flatpack on LMDE4 [SOLVED]

I ran neofetch on my new LMDE4 upgrade and I got (in part) Packages: 2830 (dpkg), 6 (flatpak) I'd prefer to have standard .deb packages [no flatpak things] to avoid the need to learn how to use a second (flaky) package manager. Also, what is the source of these flatpaks since the idea of LMDE is tha...

False alarm. Turns out I had zillions of compressed kernel crash(?guess) files dating from 2017/2018. So I deleted loads of files with names like dmesg-efi-153323934915001.enc.z from /sys/fs/pstore/ journalctl now reads kernel: pstore: Using compression: deflate kernel: pstore: Registered efi as per...

Re: LMDE 4

LMDE4 is still in Beta - yet all these people are trying to make it work in unusual ways.

Why not just load a vanilla Debian and apply these various cunning "fixes" to that?
