Re: Cinnamon crashes, I have a working desktop (SOLVED)
I had the same problem of Cinnamon crashing. My temporary workaround was to switch to nouveau. Then I followed jim-m's direction by purging 304.132-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 and replacing it with 304.131-0ubuntu3, etc. ... sudo echo “nvidia-304 hold” | sudo dpkg --set-selections dpkg: error: illegal package ...

Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon RC is out!
Hi, I have been running LM 17 Cinnamon RC 64-bit pretty well, until today. I just got the message saying Cinnamon just crashed...The screen is now mostly black, with the exception of home and trash folder icons. I tried recovery mode but failed to get things back to normal. I would appreciate your a...

Hello,
I should have thought about this solution sooner. DUH! Here it is:
1. Mint logo
2. System Settings
3. System Administration
4. Startup & Shutdown
5. Autostart
6. Add Program
7. Desktop File: Update Manager
command: mintupdate
status: (checked) enabled startup

Hello wavespot, Today after logging in, the systray shows UM icon in blue color with a letter "i" >mintupdate After entering passsword: mintUpdate.py: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0. I could be mistaken but this error may be due to Bug #1015832

[SOLVED] LM16 Petra RC-KDE: No Update Manager?
Hello, Yesterday I installed the 32-bit DVD version after MD5 check was confirmed. Installation was fine. I notice yesterday and today that when I boot into LM, the Update Manager (UM) icon shows up in the task bar. However, after I enter password for UM, nothing happens. This is unlike LM16 Cinnamo...

LinuxMint 16 KDE RC: No wireless..?
Hi, I installed LM 16 KDE RC last night. I cannot find wireless connection to set it up. Cannot use Software Manager to install wireless driver either. Does anyone know how I can install /etc/apt/sources.list file for this RC, in order for me to set up wireless connection and use Update Manager, et ...

Re: Mint 16 KDE before January?
I installed Mint 16 KDE RC last night on a legacy laptop. Probably because of older CPU, it took about 40 minutes in all. No problems so far. I only wish the installer had different colors to distinguish various partitions for distros, just like Ubuntu installer (Manual > Disk Setup).
Cheers!
Cheers!

Re: LMDE UP7: Missing "genuine" Firefox icon
Hello GeneBenson,
It doesn't work. Must be something to do with user interface design within LMDE. The Launcher Properties window in LM 16 does have a Firefox logo or icon.
Thanks for your suggestion anyway.

LMDE UP7: Missing "genuine" Firefox icon
Hello, I noticed that LM16 Cinnamon Edition has the genuine or original Firefox icon (filename: mozicon128.png) in the Menu. However, in LMDE UP7 it's not present, other than a label called "Firefox Web Browser". It's strange that Mozilla Thunderbird below it does have the Mozilla TB icon....

Re: How do I install Cinnamon 2.0.12 in LMDE UP7?
PROBLEM SOLVED! Cinnamon needs non-free nvidia driver in order to display properly, otherwise the screen will be unstable and there's also an error message about driver for hardware acceleration not found. 1. I used Synaptic Pkg Mgr to install "nvidia driver" along with nvidia-kernel-comm...

Re: How do I install Cinnamon 2.0.12 in LMDE UP7?
Hello everyone, Today I followed Clem's instruction in segfault.linuxmint.com and installed Cinnamon 2.0.14 from Git. After booting into Cinnamon session, the screen says Cinnamon is running in software rendering mode and no 3D hardware acceleration is available (e.g. no proprietary Nvidia driver?)....

[SOLVED] How do I install Cinnamon 2.0.12 in LMDE UP7?
Hello, A few weeks ago I installed LMDE Cinnamon UP6 then upgraded to UP7. After this, I can only log into Gnome Classics session because Cinnamon 1.88 was removed due to conflicts between gjs and gnome-shell. Instead of waiting for UP8, is it feasible for me to get Cinnamon 2.0.12 and gjs 1.37.6 fr...

Hello nascar64,
I am aware of the site that your link leads to. Thanks anyway.
Does anyone know if there's a command similar to the following, that completely purges ALL KDE packages and related dependencies?
Any suggestions?

Removing KDE from LMDE 2013 UP7 - How?
Hello, Right now I have LMDE 2013 UP7. I can login to either Gnome Classic or KDE Plasma Desktop. Since I still have no icon for plasma-widget-networkmanager even after installing this package, I found wicd in Synaptic Package Manager which helps me set up wireless connections in KDE Plasma Desktop. Here is how: 1. Install kde-full 2. Install wicd 3. Desktop > Main > Add widgets 4. Click on wicd...
