Re: no grub after install
There you go, you were able to directly boot the kernel from GRUB Legacy's menu, excellent! After you repartitioned and reinstalled Mint, that probably got you past whatever was not letting it work before.

Re: Where is swap
At the end of the installation there is a question about installing GRUB ... my question is should GRUB be installed and if so should it be on: sda sda1 (/home partition) sda2 (/ partition) It is best for the modern GRUB (the bootstrap part) to be installed on the MBR of the disk, therefore sda . s...

Re: no grub after install
If I were in that situation , I would avoid using GPT partitions. 1. format sdb to msdos, then partition to whatever I am accustomed to 2. retain sda to be controlled by grub legacy 3. install Mint on sdb, and, install its grub2 boot loader to its own root partition, when this is done, the root par...

Re: Linux Mint 13: Grub2 ISO Loopback Not Working?
breaker - I've read your post but I am still a newbie and not quite sure I understood everything right so I have a question: Following this procedure will make iso which will ensure installation like with Julia/automatically inside win7 or like with Maya/through live session? And one request: If yo...

Re: Sorry, Try Again: User Password not recognized After Ins
The desktop environment or gui login manager are perhaps corrupted. I'm not sure, but I think I saw a post recommending a reinstall of some of those packages to help with a similar problem.
Maybe someone else can post a clue?

Re: Linux Mint 13: Grub2 ISO Loopback Not Working?
Yes. Hey the trackers I used are UDP, and I noticed on Linux Mint 9, transmission doesn't support those kind. However, Deluge does. I want to do the Cinnamon ISO also, but I have to go out of town for a few, so I'll catch it when I return! EDIT: I'm sure everything works, but if someone would indepe...

Re: Problem with Linux mint 13 Cinnamon 32-bit mint4win inst
I fixed the MATE version, and I will post Cinnamon soon. As karlchen can tell you, the issue was bad mount.ntfs program within the initrd.lz, so I unpacked the ISO, then the initrd, fixed the files, repacked initrd, redid the integrity check MD5 stuff, recreated the ISO using the proper methods for ...

Re: After installing LM LXDE 12 (64 bit), Windows XP is gone
Hi, mintybits is great at helping folks out here, and I try also ;) Anyway, one thing I have run into is when resizing NTFS partitions, Windows needs a check disk run before the filesystem is "clean" again. Did the installer do the resizing for you? If you open the graphical partition tab...

Re: After installing LM LXDE 12 (64 bit), Windows XP is gone
That's too bad. Did you try those commands at the GRUB boot shell just to see what happens anyway? I agree you seem to need a new hard drive though.

Re: Having very strange problems installing
So it hangs 7-10 into the install process, is that what you are saying? Is anything shown at this point that gives a clue what's going on? Anyway, some people have had to boot to the Live desktop, then remove the installer's slideshow before installing, try that; http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopi...

Re: Having very strange problems installing
What kind of install are you doing, dual-boot to a hard drive, or using the entire drive for Linux? Maybe try via burned DVD instead if possible?

See if you can login to a virtual console by pressing CTRL+ALT+F1, login with user name and password, then try sudo. If it works try;
Which will update your packages, there might be a bug fix along the way...
And CTRL+ALT+F7 (or F8) gives you back the GUI.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
