Re: system freezes when running software manager

Solution worked for me as well, though I must say it seems somewhat pointless, and counterintuitive, to leave in place an option that effectively disables an application.

Re: Sound hiccups/glitches/crackles Linux Mint 13 MATE 64bit

I still find the sound output on my Linux Mint Mate 13 machine terrible as opposed to the same hardware Linux Mint Cinnamon 13 machine.

What gives, it sure seems like it's some sort of glitch with mate?

Would have expected a solution to be posted by now. :(

Re: How to prevent home network file transfers from locking?

I had created it with Nautilus so inserted the line in Global Settings under the network name as you instructed.

Thank You. :)

Re: How to prevent home network file transfers from locking?

I figured out how to change the ownership, but still wouldn't mind knowing what caused the problem in the first place, and how to avoid it. Just to make sure I checked the Samba settings on both Linux PC's and they are the same exactly. I find this puzzles me even more as the locks only showed up on...

Re: How to prevent home network file transfers from locking?

I've figured out that the locks are showing because the files are in my user home directory which is owned by my user name, but the files I transferred in there are owned by root. So what's the simplest way of changing ownership of everything in pictures, music, and documents directory? Also how do ...

How to prevent home network file transfers from locking?

I have a home network and back up my pictures and music that's on a Windows 7 Pro computer to two Linux Mint 13 computers using Karen's Replicator on the Win7 PC. I just checked the setup and noted that all the files and directories backed up without issue, however, they are all showing up on the LM...

Re: Wallpaper directory question LM13

I just have mint on a machine to fool around with and am beginning to think this version is a bit off for some reason. Previously I always liked going to the Linux box because it was so much quicker than Windows but ever since I installed LM13 the Win7 PC has been quicker and more responsive. Both P...

Re: Wallpaper directory question LM13

Thanks for the feedback. I think you may be right that it's a bug as I've checked and double checked and there's nothing I'm doing any different. Yeah I saw the "pictures" folder thing but I'm just one of those types that are bothered when something doesn't work as it should and I keep at it until i...

Re: Wallpaper directory question LM13

Didn't think it was that hard of a question for some of the experts in here so what gives?

Trying to learn a bit more about how linux works but it seems when I search this place I find more questions unanswered than anything else.

Wallpaper directory question LM13

So I've installed LM13 X64 and have been tweaking appearance. I have a number of jpg's for use as wallpaper which I dropped into the /usr/share/backgrounds/LinuxMint-Maya-Extras folder and made sure that I did it as root and matched the permissions to the photos already in the LinuxMint-Maya-Extras ...

Took me a while but your tip did send me off in the right direction.

One of the themes I'd installed had a faulty thumbnail.png file and after I modified permissions on it all has gone back to normal.

Re: Cinnamon Themes

May be you have permission issues? I don't see why as I put the theme folders into the directory as root the same way I've always done and never had an issue before. I admit this is the first time I've used Cinnamon though as my previous installation was Gnome. What I do is type "gksu nautilus" int...

Re: Cinnamon Themes

OK let me throw this one out there........... I did a clean install of Mint 13 X64 Maya Cinnamon, been tweaking the look to suit my taste and ran into a glitch with themes. I downloaded themes, put them on my desktop and extracted them, after which I put them into user/share/themes and then when I g...

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" released!

At that point I generally end up having to Ctrl + Alt + F2 then reboot and it will be fine again. A bit faster way of doing this is to Ctrl + Alt + F1 to a command prompt, login and type: sudo service lightdm restart That will get you back to the login splash screen and you can log into your deskto...

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" released!

I don't see that issue the way it's described. Sometimes Software Manager is a bit slow showing what I've typed into the box, as in I type fast and it'll show the first three letters, and then nothing, when in fact I've typed more and finished, but I give it a couple of seconds then the all the text...

Re: Mint 12 connecting network printers

Hello. I also have Linux Mint 12 (64 Bit) installed on this computer and am having issues getting a networked Canon Inkjet to print. The Canon Pixma iP4820 is attached to a Windows 7 Pro computer on my home network. I had no problem locating the printer using "system-config-printer" and also found d...
