Re: VM's, Data Partitions & File System Formats

I have my boot partition /boot formatted as ext 3, my system @/ and @home formatted as BTRFS, and my VM partiton /vbox formatted as ext4. I use Timeshift in the BTRFS snapshot uage. BTRFS snapshots are really fantastic. I keep 1day and three hourly.

Re: LMDE4: deb-multimedia removed. Why?

Some programs that ran on earlier versions of Debian DO NOT run on Debian Buster. I myself lost of couple of programs I really liked to this....the question is...do I want to stay on Debian Stretch and run those programs...or upgrade to Debian Buster and not run those programs......I chose to upgrad...

Re: LMDE4: deb-multimedia removed. Why?

The Linux Mint team was very explicit in their reasoning for dropping the multimedia repo. It is your system thought, if you want to go ahead and add the repo back in and take the chance of borking your system?????? Go right ahead....but don't come back on this forum complaining how your LMDE4 syste...

Re: LMDE3 MATE - Long Boot Time

The following worked for me.

If not already installed, then Install haveged (available in Debian repo)

If not already enable, then sudo systemctl enable haveged

now reboot and if it's an entropy issue which often causes very long boot times then this would take care of it.

Re: LMDE 4

Yes it does work....I installed a test ver of LMDE3 in a VM and performed the upgrade. I've been monitoring it for 3 weeks and it does indeed appear to be working. However sevearl programs that I use on a regular basis wuill not yet run under Buster. When they are upgraded and work, then I'll proabl...

Re: LMDE 4

I do not understand why poster Phil is in such a rush to move to Debian Buster. LMDE 3 is rock soild, what we are testing is the feasibility of updating LMDE3, then changing the repo's from Stretch to Buster. If Phil wants a true rolling Linux release take a look at Sparky Linux....I followed that m...

Re: LMDE 4

I also run LMDE3, have been quite pleased with it......Ran across this thread, and I did the same thing the above poster suggested. Install LMDE 3 in a VB, I stuck with Cinnamon...no MATE. Followed his directions and he is right...it seems to work well...so far. I noticed that after the upgrade to B...

Been using Liquorix on my LMDE3 for quite some time. Video playback is much smoother using Liquorix. I keep a stock 4.19 kernel as fallback.

Re: LMDE 4

Phil,
If you need the latest version of a program....in stall it via FlatPak (which LMDE3 has Flatpak support bulit in) or possible appimage. I follow this routine and all my apps are running the latest version.

Re: UEFI "Other OS" option

I convert my mbr partition to a GPT partition on the fly with no loss of data. The first thing to do is using gparted, create a 10 meg parition, format it as ext2 or whatever it does not matter, and set the flag as bios_grub. That is where grub will be installed after conversion from mbr. I moved it...
