Re: Can I install Linux Mint on a Dell Optiplex 980?

I'm running LMDE3 on a Dell USFF 790 Optiplex...USFF=Ultra Small Form Factor. Absolutely no issues what so ever.

Re: Wheres xfce lmde edition?

Open synaptic and install xfce4. This is a meta-package which will install the xfce desktop on LMDE3 for you.

Re: LMDE 4

I do not understand why poster Phil is in such a rush to move to Debian Buster. LMDE 3 is rock soild, what we are testing is the feasibility of updating LMDE3, then changing the repo's from Stretch to Buster. If Phil wants a true rolling Linux release take a look at Sparky Linux....I followed that m...

Re: LMDE 4

I also run LMDE3, have been quite pleased with it......Ran across this thread, and I did the same thing the above poster suggested. Install LMDE 3 in a VB, I stuck with Cinnamon...no MATE. Followed his directions and he is right...it seems to work well...so far. I noticed that after the upgrade to B...

Re: Liquorix Kernel on LMDE3

Been using Liquorix on my LMDE3 for quite some time. Video playback is much smoother using Liquorix. I keep a stock 4.19 kernel as fallback.

If you need the latest version of a program....in stall it via FlatPak (which LMDE3 has Flatpak support bulit in) or possible appimage. I follow this routine and all my apps are running the latest version.

Re: UEFI "Other OS" option

I convert my mbr partition to a GPT partition on the fly with no loss of data. The first thing to do is using gparted, create a 10 meg parition, format it as ext2 or whatever it does not matter, and set the flag as bios_grub. That is where grub will be installed after conversion from mbr. I moved it...

Re: Why did Mate look so good on LMDE2 and what should I upgrade to?

I agree with ChrisMW. I also updated MATE from backports and it is running great. In fact I switched to MATE from Cinnamon because the memory usage is a smaller footprint. LMDE3 is a solid OS, but no OS is going to be perfect. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what works great for someone maybe ...

Re: stretch repository

Do you have your firewall on by any chance? If you do turn it off and see what happens. By firewall I mean the UFW in Cindy, not the firewall in your router.

Re: Goodbye and thanks

I used SolydX for a couple of years...As the name says...it is Solid. What concerned me the most about the distro was it is supported by a very small team, if something were to happen to either the team lead (Arjen is his name) or the other 2 or 3 support team members, the distro would die. I just f...

Re: Waterfox

Use the following instructions for adding the latest Waterfox repository. The bintray repository no longer works. The following works as I have it on my system running LMDE 3 Cindy https://software.opensuse.org//download.html?project=home%3Ahawkeye116477%3Awaterfox&package=waterfox Select Debian cli...

Re: BTRFS and subvolumes

Timeshift only supports BTRFS snapshots on the mounted volume. BTRFS snapshots are not Backups....They are pointers to existing data on the mounted drive. BTRFS snapshots cannot be moved....

Re: I tried to compile source install but it failed. help.

Have you tried installing the Flatpak version of Handbrake? I suggest you install it and try it out. I do not know who told you that Flatpak apps run 50% slower, I can tell you they do not...I have several Flatpak apps installed on my pc and they run just fine. Plus you always have the latest versio...

(Solved)Calamres installer

Quick question. Why is the Calamares installer not available in the Linux Mint 19.1 beta iso's. It is not there in the Cinnamon one so I'm assuming it is not there in the Mate and Xfce iso's either.

CLI Companion

For all you command line users....and LMDE3 newbies included.....You should indeed check out CLI Companion. It gives you a handy list of quite a few command line options, their description and also allows for multiple open command line tabs. May not be for everyone....but here is the link: https://la...
