Re: Cinnamon suddenly very slow and jerky (18.3)

Maybe that (partitions almost full) is true for the root and home partitions? I have room there, other practically full partitions never bothered me. I don't have too many extensions in Firefox (I think :) and they've been the same for about the last six months now. Thanks for your tips in any case!...

Re: Cinnamon suddenly very slow and jerky (18.3)

Unfortunately the issue is coming back every now and then: nothing as bad as described in my original post (sloooow appearance of typed characters, erratic and unusable mouse cursor), but still there especially when using Firefox. I will try the hardware acceleration feature, switching it off in FF,...

Re: Cinnamon suddenly very slow and jerky (18.3)

Thanks for the tip! I tried all of the steps recommended by that article, let's see if it gets better. What buggers me is that this happened abruptly, my desktop was fast and smooth just a few weeks ago. Also, while I only have decent CPU and graphic adapter, I got plenty of memory and the root part...

Cinnamon suddenly very slow and jerky (18.3)

Hi guys, I don't know if it is somehow related to the latest kernel upgrades, but all of a sudden my 18.3 Cinnamon desktop has become quite slow and jerky, with the mouse moving in a really unpleasant way. Is anybody experiencing anything similar? At first I thought that it was Firefox' fault (it to...

Re: HiDpi - Some programs not scaling properly

I am having similar problems on a full HD display (13" physical dimensions): how about Java and Wine programs? I'm not sure how to increase the character size in those.

Re: mintupdate update wants to uninstall all virtualbox-guest packages

It turns out that uninstalling those packages was just preliminary to an update of the whole Virtualbox package, so going to do that and check that everything is working.

Thank you,

[Solved] mintupdate update wants to uninstall all virtualbox-guest packages

Hi all,
as per package this latest version of mintupdate apparently wants to get rid of my virtualbox-guest-* packages, currently at version 5.0.40-dfsg. Can I go ahead and those will be update as well, or is this going to break my virtualbox software?

Thank you,

Re: Problems with LM Cinnamon on an Asus Zenbook

A few weeks later, I wonder how that may happen ... perhaps I should open an issue on GitHub? Has any developer opened one, or noted the problem? In the meanwhile, my shiny new laptop continues to freeze randomly, and all the other problems I mentioned I still there. Please don't make me go back to ...

Well that sounds like good news :) Is the FAILED message the hint?

Yes I clicked on the link but it seemed like an ironic site LOL

Problems with LM Cinnamon on an Asus Zenbook

Hello everybody, I've recently bought an Asus Zenbook UX310UQ and installed LM Cinnamon 18.3 on it: it works, but I've been surprised by some problems I met, not yet resolved by subsequent Cinnamon updates. 1. UI scaling is not perfect: the resolution of 1920x1080 on a 13.3" screen must be tricky to...

Re: A few issues with Cinnamon in LM 18.2

Now that I think of it, I'm using the same /home directory as with LM 18.1, which means that while it is in fact a fresh install and not an update, I'm using exactly the same array of themes than before. Yep, it was an oldish theme (Elegans dark) that caused those problems, also the desktop icon one...

[Solved] A few issues with Cinnamon in LM 18.2

Hi guys, I've just made a fresh installation of LM Cinnamon 18.2, works fine, and seems to be very stable, but I ran into a few issues: - first and most annoying one: in 18.1 the Menu and User applets, respectively first and last on the top panel, were activated pushing the mouse cursor on the upper...

Thank you for that information, will try to change it as suggested; it would be nice if it'd become an option in the system preferences.

Re: Synaptic is broken, please fix it

Hello again :) Conclusion: Switching from Synaptic 0.81.2-4 (Mint version) to 0.81.1 (Trusty version) is feasible. - GeneC had already confirmed so. Hello, Rehdon. Would this be an acceptable workaround / solution: getting back a fully functional Synaptic by downgrading from Synaptic 0.81.2-4 (Mint ...

Re: Synaptic is broken, please fix it

Hello Hi, altair4. Thanks to your screenshots I see, we are in fact talking about the disabled "mark for installation" options in Synaptic Mint 17. And I see why Rehdon thinks Synaptic wants to force a removal. "Mark for removal" is the only action which can still be selected. It never occurred to m...

Re: Synaptic is broken, please fix it

Hello, Rehdon. initially I thought there was a problem with Synaptic because it insisted in wanting to remove packages that could be updated when I clicked on them, after a little research I found out that this is intended behavior and not a bug. Could you be bothered to explain, link to the place,...

Re: Synaptic is broken, please fix it

what were your expectations? Click on package = mark for upgrade. I have to ask: have you ever used Synaptic before? Synaptic always worked that way when you remove a package. Even when you use a terminal command (sudo apt-get remove { packagename }) you won't get any detailed explanation. What do ...
