Re: Brother MFCL3750 now refuses to scan

OK. Finally on a lark I installed Xsane 0.999 and now scanning seems to work fine. I think there may have been some oddball dependency that was fixed.

Re: Brother MFCL3750 now refuses to scan

Hi Brian, I liked that but it didn't solve the problem. This is all over my pay grade. I did see two more issues that might be causing this? Something about v4l and pint not loading. [dll] load: searching backend `v4l' in `/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane:/usr/lib/sane' [dll] load: trying to load `/us...

(SOLVED) Brother MFCL3750 now refuses to scan

Brother MFCL3750CDW Digital Colour All-in-One Multifunction Centre. This worked great using the approved Brother driver package when purchased and installed in the summer, then a few weeks ago stopped scanning. I've reinstalled everything, and have tried the suggested fixes shown here and still noth...

Re: Fix for USB scanner not working on LM20 that worked on LM19

I'll do that, but my thinking was the thread was about issues with scanning, not a specific Mint version per se. (Despite the title) This a problem that has existed for ages, and the thread has been active for quite a while with different people adding their experiences. The question, as always, is ...

Re: Twint on Mint

TL/DR It seems that setting the PATH variable was essential. Once that was done it all came together. Fair enough. I was hoping for quick "That happened to me too, and here's how I fixed it. I'm in my home directory barry@barry-Latitude-E7450:~$ git clone --depth=1 https://github.com/twintproj...

[SOLVED] Twint on Mint

Can anyone offer pointers for getting twint running on Mint 19? https://github.com/twintproject/twint I've chased down too many dead ends and suspect I've missed something simple. Python is not my area of expertise..... More detail. I'm fine on the command line for the most part. Twint needs Python ...

Re: Data backup to external USB drive

By way of follow-up: grsync worked great. I just accepted the defaults, chose the origin and destination drives, and let it run.

A bit less than 2 TB did take about two days to complete, including restarting when the PC froze midway through. I'm assuming the speed is due to the USB connection.

Data backup to external USB drive

My data lives a second drive, separate from root. I finally ordered a nice little 2TB Seagate USB drive to back it up. Rather than trying to guess from all the 2 year old "20 best back-up software for Linux" articles, I thought I'd ask here what people suggest for easy data backups. I pref...

(Solved) Adobe's Stupid Fillable Forms

Is there really no Linux pdf reader that can handle those stupid but beloved by governments Adobe fillable forms? Like the one here:
https://cfr.forms.gov.ab.ca/form/dvs11165M.pdf

I've now got five or six PDF readers installed, all of which refuse to open these dumb forms.

Damn. Suddenly last week the damned scanner stopped working again, and so far nothing seems to fix it. Maybe it's time to just do a fresh install of Mint.

Re: Recurring Mint 19 Issues?

One more thing driving me mad: periodically, for no obvious reason, the whole system will slow to a halt, with the hard drive LED burning non-stop. I think it's connected to Firefox, but System Monitor doesn't show any unusual CPU, Memory, or hard drive use. Again, just something weird that I haven'...

Recurring Mint 19 Issues?

Hi all, this probably overly broad, but am I alone in finding that Mint 19 Cinnamon (AMD64) seems to have more than few odd-ball issues? I've been running Mint for several years (Since Mint 12 back in 2011), and this is the first time that I have had anything but a flawless experience. On my desktop...

SOLVED Brother MFC-8860DN Scanning (Mint 19)

I'm running the Mint Cinnamon 19 beta. This printer and scanner worked great in Mint 18, but I did fresh install this week and now can't get it to scan. I've downloaded fresh driver/install packages from Brother, and followed the instructions here: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/...

Re: DE or Distro with REAL scrollbars

OK smartasses who apparently don't see the problem in making significant changes to fundamental UI elements, two questions. 1) Again... what problem is solved by disappearing scroll bars ? What do they offer that's so valuable? Still haven't found anyone to answer that question. 2) Are you part of t...
