Re: [SOLVED] Cinnamon keyboard shortcuts

I tried to mark it solved in the main header, but couldn't see how. Maybe after 55 years in the IT industry I'm getting a bit stupid.

Re: Cinnamon keyboard shortcuts

This is a Cinnamon related question. Cinnamon is a project of the Linux Mint organisation (that I help fund). So I asked the question in the Cinnamon-related forum. I get that YOU don't think it's Linux Mint related. Maybe I should just raise a Cinnamon bug that these keyboard shortcuts are not expr...

[SOLVED] Cinnamon keyboard shortcuts

I am trying to turn off or reassign alt-Left-Mouse (Alt-LMB) and stop it de-maximising and moving the window.
It is not listed in the shortcuts in Settings->Keyboard.
Does anyone know how to access these hidden shortcuts.

(I am using Cinnamon 4.0.7 under Arch Linux, not Linux Mint)

iwlwifi needs a firmware update for Tara

I built a new Tara box with a Ryzen 2700x on a Gigabyte x470 Aorus Gaming 7 WiFI motherboard. It has an Intel iwlwifi chip. The wifi doesn't work with Linux Mint Tara beta (great release BTW). This is the fix: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1038242/no-wifi-option-on-ubuntu-18-04-and-16-04 In all pr...

Re: Hover over folder opens it.

OK, maybe I need to explain more. This behaviour is only when I am dragging something to the folder. If I drag and drop quickly (so quickly I may have the wrong folder.....) then it doesn't open the dropped-into-folder, but if I hesitate, for less than a second, the folder opens - I want to defeat t...

Hover over folder opens it.

Is there a way of changing the time you have to hover over a folder in Nemo (18.3) before it opens the folder. It is far far far too quick for me.

[SOLVED] Re: Odd error updating libdrm

I needed to run the command: sudo dpkg-divert --package libdrm-common --divert /usr/share/libdrm/amdgpu.ids.divert --rename /usr/share/libdrm/amdgpu.ids which fixes everything, I think by forcing the libdrm-common package to overwrite the pre-existing version of /usr/share/libdrm/amdgpu.ids. from ht...

Re: Odd error updating libdrm

OK, I now understand what is happening. Libdrm-common, is a new package and a dependency of libdrm-amdgpu1:amd64 2.4.85-5, and it wants to install /usr/share/libdrm/amdgpu.ids. But libdrm-amdgpu1:amd64 2.4.85-0~x~padoka0 also includes that file. The objective is to install libdrm-amdgpu1:amd64 2.4.8...

Odd error updating libdrm

I am getting a fail on updates to libdrm, specifically: E: /var/cache/apt/archives/libdrm-common_2.4.85-5~x~padoka0_all.deb: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/libdrm/amdgpu.ids', which is also in package libdrm-amdgpu1:amd64 2.4.85-0~x~padoka0 Now I did, quite recently change from an AMD gpu to a NVid...

Sound output switches every reboot or after suspend

I am running Mint 16.2 on an 8-core AMD based system, Gigabyte MB, with a nVidia GTX1080Ti graphics card. My 2 monitors are connected to the GTX with HDMI cables. Every time I boot, or after a suspend the sound OUTPUT setting switches at RANDOM between the 2 HDMI DisplayPorts or the S.PDIF or Headph...

Re: Cannot output HDMI when using Linux Mint 18.1 & Nvidia Optimus Prime technology

These were settings in the monitor, not in Mint. On my Benq you hit the Menu button..... but your monitor may well be different.
In short my monitor was expecting sound through a 3.5mm stero cable, and was ignoring the sound from the HDMI cable.

Re: Cannot output HDMI when using Linux Mint 18.1 & Nvidia Optimus Prime technology

I found https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions ... inux_mint/ quite helpful, but in the end I discovered that I had the monitor set to receive 'PC Sound' and not 'HDMI Sound', there was also 'Auto'.

Changing Graphics card on existing 17.3 installation.

I am finally fed up with my MSI AMD R9 290 SCREAMING graphics card, that SCREAMS whenever I use a 3D application (and reports running at 75C - a known feature of R9 290). I have bought an Asus nVidia GTX 1080Ti to replace it. Friends tell me that it doesn't scream and they can actually run wi...

How to search when all the terms are short?

I want to search before I ask, but the search is rejected:

'snd_hda_intel no sound'

says that snd hda no are not included, hence the search results are useless.

What am I supposed to do?
