Re: how can i install my intel and nvidia graphic cards?

1-how can i find out if my graphic cards are installed correctly or not? It's not the cards, its the drivers. If the graphics card wasn't installed correctly you wouldn't see anything on your monitor but graphical artifacts and the BIOS. It would look like a computer from 1980. Happened to me, when...

What does this mean? There is no obvious way that command registers a failure. On the other hand, if you install the drivers the OS itself prompts you to install, the computer crashes and becomes unbootable. That's failure.

Re: NVIDIA and Screen Resolution

You could try the newer nvidia drivers from their site then use driver manager to install another version. Still doesn't work. System crashes within seconds of logging in, requiring a hard restart, after which the OS fails to boot. The old drivers failed on vanilla Ubuntu, Ubuntu Gnome, and Mint Ma...

Re: Suspend-related glitch

-Did you try anything there? I checked to make sure my single-partition, which I re-formatted to single partition from another single partition of Ubuntu five days ago, was still single partition. It was. Also five days ago I made sure all screensaver options were off because that is what I always ...

Re: Do you run Linux as your sole operating system?

This is not true. Some advanced formatting isn't saved correctly by OO/LO. For example merged cells in tables in the .doc format. And in .docx the width of table cells does not match. And MS Word 2007 fails to open the .odt files of LibreOffice 3.4. It correctly opens the .odt files of LibreOffice ...

Re: Is there any place that still sells desktops with Mint?

That would be well and good, but, I have arthritis so bad, I wouldn't be able to do so and we won't mention the fact that I only have 25% vision in my left eye and 38% in my right. So I really don't mind paying someone. I build computers. It would be unethical for me to just let you spend twice as ...

Re: Suspend-related glitch

I had the same thing on a laptop, and I'll link you to my posting to see what worked for me here -Using 12 not 11, ie gnome 3 and MATE not gnome 2. -Suspend doesn't cause a crash, its causing a visual glitch that makes the gui unusable, though filesystem is fine. -Single partition. -No screensaver.

Re: Do you run Linux as your sole operating system?

Yes, I have a single partition linux box. I was first exposed to Red Hat in 2004 as part of a computer security class. I didn't get the impression the distro, kernel, or the community itself was where it needed to be to go mainstream. It turned me off linux and I spent the next 5 years wrestling wit...

Re: Is there any place that still sells desktops with Mint?

You can buy the parts and by your powers combined assemble them into a desktop system with Mint installed. Otherwise you're just paying double the price for someone else to do it. Particularly when it comes to the monitor, that thing can be purchased independently of the system from Newegg. No lego-...

Suspend-related glitch

After reviving the computer from a Suspend, the gui looks like it needs degaussing. I'm not using a CRT monitor. The file system, login prompt, and background are all fine and perfectly legible. This is a reproducible error. It does not happen after a hard or soft restart or when I power up the syst...

Seconded. There's a port for Chrome/Chromium too. Try it out with notifications on for a little while and you'll see how much information gets datamined by just how many sites.
