Re: Fresh install on Mac Mini - Crashing into Fallback

I didn't manage to boot in BIOS mode via rEFInd, but a DVD worked. Combined with "nomodeset", this let me install and use the NVIDIA driver, which lets Cinnamon run just fine :) I don't use WiFi for this Mac so I won't worry about that. My only remaining complaint is that this thing doesn't have an ...

Re: Fresh install on Mac Mini - Crashing into Fallback

Ah yes, I remember that now from the last time I installed Linux on this thing. Something about Apple using a non-standard UEFI implementation IIRC, though I've had had several firmware patches since then, so hoped one might have fixed the issue :) I'll see if I can get rEFInd working, but failing t...

Re: Fresh install on Mac Mini - Crashing into Fallback

I found a solution via Macworld . You need to pass "nomodeset" when booting. You can press "e" at the grub menu and add it after "quiet splash". It doesn't stick though, so post-install (or in an existing install) you need to edit /etc/default/grub and add it to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT option...

Re: Fresh install on Mac Mini - Crashing into Fallback

I don't have a solution for you, but I was just trying the same on my own late 2010 Mac Mini and I have exactly the same issue with LM 19.1. The Cinnamon edition is crashing to fallback mode. The Xfce edition doesn't error, but is missing all of its window chrome (this doesn't happen with Xubuntu 18...

Re: LMDE bad Btrfs config for Timeshift

Thanks for the info. I was having the same issue and the Calamares installer worked fine (I would have never thought to search for that!).

Why are there two installers? Is the Calamares installer planned to replace the current LMDE one, or even the Ubiquity installer of Ubuntu-based LM?

Touchpad "Twitchy" in LM 19

I have two HP 255 G3 laptops, one running LM 17 and one running LM 18. I recently booted up LM 19 on one of them to test the hardware compatibility and found that the touchpad is very "twitchy" compared to the previous versions. The older version were using the default acceleration and sensitivity s...

Best Practices for Timeshift Snapshots?

I'm currently in the process of evaluating a LM 19 update for a relatives laptop that is currently running LM 17. This person is not technically capable, so my plan was to set them up with Timeshift running on a BTRFS partition, with automatic updates enabled, and with level 4 and kernel updates dis...

Re: Mouse stops working periodically

This is still happening, and it is really annoying. It's happened three of the five times I've turned my laptop today :(

Change network key on Gnome 3

Hi, Unless I am very much mistaken, you used to be able to connect to WEP networks using either a passphrase or the actual network key. Since I didn't have the key on me I tried connecting using the passphrase, however that didn't work. I now find myself in a situation where having found the network...

Mouse stops working periodically

Hey, I'm having some issues where my mouse stops responding. The rest of the system is fine, and I can use the keyboard to navigate, but I just can't do anything with the mouse. This has been happening periodically on my main PC on the login screen, so I thought it might be my KVM not always reporti...

No mint4win on DVD ISO?

According to the download page , the DVD ISO for Linux Mint 12 doesn't include mint4win? Is this really correct? It seems like quite an oversight if it is. I was hoping to replace a Wubi install with a mint4win install on my laptop, since Mint has far better codec support out of the box (not to ment...
