Re: Mint 18.2 installation problem

Otherwise, the stable version of Linux Mint 18.2 is very close to being released. Assuming that you're attempting this with the beta version, perhaps the stable version may be worth waiting for. Actually the LM 18.2 final is available in the mirrors now. Just not officially announced yet. I downloa...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

I've been working with LM 18.2 amd64 MATE Beta for a couple of days now. I selected the auto login option during installation. Have not had even one hiccup yet and that's with numerous reboots, power downs/ups between yesterday and today. Auto login works totally well so far.

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Didn't last long, got the login screen again. So, just gonna go with timed login on this machine. I can live with a 5 second delay. Not sure why, but auto login still works on my other machine (fingers crossed  ). You've officially joined a long list of others that had high hopes, only to hav...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Seems to me there must be a difference between the two machines entries, but darned if I know what it is. The entries can be the same but one will work and the other will not. You can clone a drive and put the clone into the exact same hardware and one may work and one may fail. I still cons...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Yeah, it's a strange bug for sure. I decided to try placing 'SelectLastLogin=true' first in mdm.conf on the machine that failed. It's working, but too soon to tell if it will hold. Well, here's the thing; Bright and early this AM I started one of the machines and up pops the mdm login screen. After...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Well, the jinx is on. I just got the 'select a user' login screen again on one laptop. So, it seems this isn't a true fix after all even though it's still holding on my other machine. Sorry 'bout that. It's still holding on both of my machines with the mdm.conf I have. That's the weirdness that's p...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

Trapper, yes that is same as mine. For me, this is the fix...so far anyway. Okay. I have this set up on 2 boxes now that I had been using lightdm previously to prevent the autologin failure. I will keep testing this. Cosmo. is right regarding the switch to a new display manager in 18.2 and continui...

Re: no autologin Mint 18 Cinnamon

This is what worked for me: In Auto Login Window, check 'Enable Automatic Login' only Login as administrator to etc.mdm.mdm.conf Set 'Timed Login Enable' to false Add this line above [security]: SelectLastLogin=true Save & reboot your system I am testing this on LM18.1 MATE 64 bit. So far it is...

Re: Mozo opens in terminal but not by clicking 'Edit Menus'.

+1 with MATE 1.18 update but MATE 1.18 "Added support for Menulibre menu editor, if installed it is preferred over Mozo." link: http://mate-desktop.org/fr/blog/2017-03-13-mate-1-18-released/ I just installed menulibre. It does launch using the right click. I cannot say I am a fan of menul...

Mozo opens in terminal but not by clicking 'Edit Menus'.

LMDE2 64 MATE I can launch mozo in a terminal. I cannot get mozo to launch after right click on Applications in the panel and selecting 'Edit Menus'. It worked many moons ago but this is the first time in a long, long while that I've attempted to use the feature. I checked .config/menus and all file...

Bothersome verticle line in Notification Area

I have a vertical line that always appears on the right end of my Notification Area 1.16.0 (just to the right of the speaker icon) in LM18.1 MATE 64 bit. It just bothers me because it shouldn't be there and I don't know how to rid myself of it. http://ledduk.net/images/indicator.jpg Any idea what ca...

Re: Automatic login is failing in Mint 18

Thanks, there is much of your post I don't understand out of inexperience. A reinstall of Mint 18.1 has solved my Login issues. So far no Login is required now. :D You may find that your auto login failure issue rears it's ugly head again even though you have 'cured' the problem with the rei...

Re: Automatic login is failing in Mint 18

I'm willing to bet my issue is related to user inexperience as although I have used Linux for awhile I am by no means an expert even a novice. I am a two day newbie with Linux Mint.... Not necessarily so. A lot of users with long time Mint experience are plagued with this problem. I, persona...

Re: Linux Mint 13 reaches end of life in April

, Mate is the best choice for me and it pretty much resembles the look (partly) and feel which I have grown accustomed to since Dos and Windows 3.1. Same here. I even still have an old IBM PS2 with SCSI drives that runs DOS and Windows 3.11. I just keep it around for posterity. It just sits there. ...

Re: Linux Mint 13 reaches end of life in April

Just my 2 cents .... I was extremely happy with Mint 13 Mate. (Almost) everything worked pretty much out of the box on my dated hardware. Alas my move to Mint 17.3 Mate didn't meet the expectations gained from Mint 13. I had more hiccups, instabilities and odd behaviors with 17.3 on my notebook tha...

Re: LMDE-2 201701 Final

You being able to use Jessie which is the current LMDE base is the main reason I responded here. My only guess is the non-free drivers used in Mint are actually creating an issue when usually they make things easier. With Stretch being in RC 2 I would think LMDE 3 isn't far off so the new spin at t...

Re: LMDE-2 201701 Final

Did any of you having issues try both integrity check on the DVD or USB or start in compatibility mode? Of course if you do get it to start and install in compatibility mode you will probably still have to do some changes after the install. Usually graphics. Check your hardware to see if there is k...

Re: LMDE-2 201701 Final

I was hoping I could run the updated LMDE-2 on a Toshiba laptop I have. That laptop runs LM17.2 MATE, LM18.1 MATE and Debian Jessie 8.7.1 MATE but even the newer LMDE-2 won't even boot up on the laptop to do an install. No big loss though. It was just a play period thing. No need to have LMDE on the...

Re: Linux Mint 13 reaches end of life in April

If you find that LM 17.3 or newer doesn't work well for you, LM 17.2 may be the good choice. It's supported the same as LM17.3 and comes without all the transitional systemd and hardware issues you may experience with 17.3 and beyond. I'm not kicking anything new. I am just saying some people with o...
