Re: Read only on USB Drivers

Quick google search, found this old thread. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1021375 Interesting bug... but Mint 17 uses Nemo not Nautilus... and is based on Ubu 14.04 not 12.04... Did you try a command line copy or saving a document directly to the USB? They should succeed a...

Re: Read only on USB Drivers

I grabbed a "new" flash drive that had never seen use outside a windows machine and got the same error.

This flash drive had 2 files I personally had copied onto it several days ago in Win7 64. USB was brand new prior to that.

Re: Read only on USB Drivers

Spearmint2 wrote:. I did discover that XP seems to wipe out the GPT portion when it's used to format such a USB drive back to a FAT32.
No luck either, used a XP machine at work and reformatted a USB to fat32 and still got the same error on a Ubu machine (12.04lts) that I just setup.

Re: Read only on USB Drivers

I have occasionally encountered problems with USB flash drives that were used to hold a distro Live ISO... sometimes difficult to format and restore to their former selves... I have used the HP USB formatting tool (windoze utility) and it has never failed to make any USB flash drive "like new" (wit...

Re: Read only on USB Drivers

No different machines. I am dual booting on the latest setup (Win/Ubu) and will try same USB, same port different os's. But I used the usb's to set up drivers on the win side of this new machine without issue. I will give the HP formatter a try later tonight. I do need to get this working as without...

Re: Read only on USB Drivers

Fake USB flashdrives are rampant around the world. http://www.ebay.com/gds/All-About-Fake-Flash-Drives-2013-/10000000177553258/g.html You can use F3 in Linux to test it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnezKfCTO7E Or use a windows test program to determine if the USB drive is hacked to be a Lie. If...

Re: Read only on USB Drivers

Well I just took that formatted USB back to a win 7 system, added files to the stick then came back and moved the files onto the LM system in question. The files were zipped when moved from windows to the stick. SO I unzipped the files from the USB on the LM system BACK onto the USB without issue. I...

Re: Read only on USB Drivers

This is truly an odd problem... is it possible that this is a symptom of a hardware issue on this machine??? Have you tried all the USB ports on the machine to see if maybe it is a bad port?... Does the machine have a SD card reader? These are usually hard wired into the USB bus... can you write to...

Re: Read only on USB Drivers

Sorry for any confusion. I am not at this machine and will not be until later tonight. If I plug the USB into the laptop (system as I refer to it) then LM mounts the device and it shows up in the file system with issue. If I have data on that USB, in this case the data was written to that USB via wi...

Re: Read only on USB Drivers

Yes, the USB (s) mount when plugged in, and I unmount before removing. It reads the USB and display's the device name. If I have data on the device I can copy or move the data from the USB to the system. Unable to move data from the systems to USB, that is any usb. I have reformatted the USB inside ...

Read only on USB Drivers

Hi, I am unable to write to any usb flash drive. I have formatted the USB sticks both using drives and Gparted inside LM. Windows computers can write without any issues. I am sure its a simple fix, but unable to change the permissions of what I plug into the USB to have the ability to write. Thanks ...

Re: Help with Garmin Plugin

Okay, still trying to get this to work. It does not seem to recognize the usb ant stick. I think once it does it should communicate with the Garmin. In installing the code I get this error message paul@paul-K53E ~ $ sudo apt-get install garminplugin Reading package lists... Done Building dependency ...
