Re: Enable locating desktop icons on any monitor

Thanks for the tip. This is useful to know, although I would also like the process to be automatic, as is now apparently the case with Xfce 4.14.

Re: Enable locating desktop icons on any monitor

Hi Hypersphere. To my surprise, 4.14 is on the roadmap for Mint 19.3. Source Wow! Thanks for pointing this out! It would be great to have Xfce 4.14 integrated into LM 19.3 so that users of this distro will not need to add a PPA. Indeed, adding the PPA to LM 19.2 Xfce has caused some problems with p...

Re: Enable locating desktop icons on any monitor

I was very glad to see the announcement of the release of Xfce 4.14. One of the new features is the ability to have the desktop icons appear on the primary monitor. Finally, it will be possible to have the desktop icons on the center or right-hand monitor in a triple-monitor setup. Unfortunately, Li...

Install DSV2019 on Mint 19.1 or Ubuntu 18.04

This is a guide on how to install Biovia Discovery Studio Visualizer 2019 on Linux Mint 19.1 64-bit (based on Ubuntu 18.04 640bit LTS). I am also using the Xfce Desktop Environment. In the following steps, replace "username" with the name of your home directory. This also assumes that you are instal...

Re: Weather applet not working in Cinnamon Panel

I mostly use Xfce anyway. Everything in Xfce works for me. The only thing Cinnamon does better is to enable placing desktop icons on any display in a multi-monitor setup.

Re: Xfce Multiple Monitors Desktop Icons and Files

Thanks, but ARandR did not help. The issue is that Xfce sees multiple monitors as a single large display, so that the desktop icons always fly over the far left-hand monitor. I hope that the Xfce developers will solve this problem in the next release. It has been solved, at least to some extent, in ...

Re: Cinnamon over XFCE; Worth it?

I much prefer Xfce over Cinnamon. The Mint implementation of Xfce is beautiful and functional right out of the box, and I can easily add the panel applets that I need. Cinnamon still has limited choices for panel applets that actually work properly. Another thing I don't like about Cinnamon is the "...

Weather applet not working in Cinnamon Panel

The weather applet is not working in the Cinnamon panel. I think that the underlying weather service is no longer operational.

Could the Cinnamon panel developers get a different weather applet that works?

Change "My Computer" in Nemo?

Is anyone else here bothered by the term "My Computer" in the left-hand pane of Nemo? I prefer almost anything as long as it does not include "My". For example, "Files", "File System", or "Computer" would be preferable. I have submitted a request on GitHub: https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/issues/2...

Installed MS Online Office in Linux Mint 19 Xfce

My favorite computing platform is Linux Mint 64-bit Xfce. I am currently on version 19. However, there are times when I need to run Windows applications, especially for collaborative projects. Although LibreOffice ought to suffice, some colleagues insist on using MS Office applications. Because of t...

[Solved] Epson V600 Scanner Linux Mint 19 Xfce

After a clean install of Linux Mint 19 64-bit Xfce, I could not connect to my Epson V600 Perfection Photo Scanner. I had installed the Epson iScan driver and the latest Sane packages. The following steps corrected the problem: 1. sudo ln -sfr /usr/lib/sane/libsane-epkowa* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/s...

Mint Aesthetics -- Form and Function

Mint has been my favorite linux distro for years, and the Mint-tweaked Xfce has been my favorite desktop environment. My reasons? LM Xfce looks great and it works! Of course, ultimately, the system must be functional, but first impressions based on aesthetics can have a major influence on the choice...

Re: Cinnamon VS Mate VS KDE VS XFCE. A list of comments I found around.

KDE : I test KDE from time to time, but each time I give it up because of its instability and high resource utilization. In addition, despite its detailed customization offerings, I find it difficult to find the features I want for the panel. The main thing I have liked about KDE is its management ...

I am running LM19 64-bit Xfce with three monitors. Because I have two other computers connected to these monitors, there are times when I would like to have the LM19Xfce computer configured with the primary monitor on the far right. Unfortunately, it is still not possible in Xfce to control the plac...

I am running LM19 64-bit Cinnamon as a test before selecting a distro and DE for production systems. I was very disappointed to discover that I could not rename "My Computer" in the navigation pane of Nemo. I would like to be able to right-click on "My Computer" and rename it to a name of my choosin...

Re: Enable locating desktop icons on any monitor

I've installed LM 18.2 Xfce 64-bit and then installed the additional Cinnamon desktop by using "mint-meta-cinnamon" in Synaptic Package Manager. This combination works with no conflicts that I have seen thus far between Xfce and Cinnamon. Because this procedure does not remove "mint-info-xfce", it k...

Enable locating desktop icons on any monitor

I have been happily using Linux Mint for several years. However, I have switched desktop environments (DEs) several times. Re: Mate vs. Cinnamon

Recently, I have been testing Mint 16 with MATE and Cinnamon. I have experienced more technical problems with Cinnamon than with MATE. I also prefer the customization options of MATE over those in Cinnamon. It does appear that Cinnamon is the favorite among Clem and the other Mint developers, but I ...
