Re: the evergreen bootloader problem :D

How about using a live mint(dvd/ usb stick/'take yr pick") to safely access all yr partitions and 'extract' all the data u wish(again use dvds or stiks to store what u need on them) and then simply use the gparted utility to slice and dice yr hdd nice and proper. Oh yeah the advice about instal...

Re: Wine can't find libGL.so.1 after UP6 (LMDE 64bit)

I'm actually glad i ran into this wine mess and ended up giving the nouveau driver another chance; last time i bothered with it was way back when it didn't even support direct rendering and 2D was slugish as well, nowadays its quite decent and as far as i'm concerned if it remains about the same or ...

Re: Wine can't find libGL.so.1 after UP6 (LMDE 64bit)

the info yr looking for is here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=186&t=119079&start=20 the short answer is this libgl.so.1 is currently handled by libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386 but this one depends on libxvmc1:i386 the bad news is that libxvmc1 doesn't play nice on multiarch so u current...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Played around with just about all DE out there and eventually settled(some months ago) for XFCE(various reasons including it being less of a ressorce hog and its reliability/simplicity &no bloat approach) nowadays since XFCE for LMDE is going to be discontinued i began re-experimenting with both...

Re: Update pack 6 chat/questions/support thread

Regarding wine & nvidia i'm pretty much stuck but i also found a viable working alternative : the gallium 0.4 glx render from mesa seems to work rather well for wine's d3d rendering needs , while there is little hope this will soon equal nvidia original driver's performance its decent enough for...

Re: Update pack 6 chat/questions/support thread

Spent time reading a few comments regarding the release of up6; So i'd like to know if its true that LMDE-XFCE will be discontinued ??!! if so can smb point me to that link(missed the news that smth like this was planned) also, is pulling in cinnamon via software manager a valid method to switch to ...

Re: Update pack 6 chat/questions/support thread

Seems i wasn't wrong, d3d wine games do work after installing libxvmc1:i386 and libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386 but the nasty consequence is the removal of xserver-xorg-video-nvidia; and on next reboot u only go as far as loading mdm after wich it complains about xserver-xorg not being set ok.... Naturally u...

Re: Update pack 6 chat/questions/support thread

Did some additional digging regarding my wine problem and i don't think i like the answers : it seems i need to install libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386 (for wine'd 32bit d3d to work) but that one insists' on pulling libxvmc1:i386 wich in turn seems to want to uninstall a lot of stuff(from what i can tell it ...

Re: UPDATE PACK 6 FEEDBACK THREAD

All went well for my xfce lmde64(enabled multiarch as instructed by software manager), no broken packages and no abnormal events so far, naturally wine was the only thing that broke down that isn't much of a shock  (extra details given in the chat thread for up6) Any ways heres my inxi output: ...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Used xfce as last ditch alternative to gnome 3 madness and then i came across cinnamon and been using it ever since and have no regrets(it provides me with exactly what i like: a modern DE that offers a classic, sane&logical way of working on my PC) PS been an avid LMDE user for quite a while now...

Re: No updates?

The waiting is pretty much over , up4 hit incoming repos (smth along the lines of 1gb worth of packages) and after some of use guinea pigs get to see the worst things that can happen it will be soon availible to everyone... Re: Lmde xfce update sorce change ??

guess i better wait it out  don't need the updates that much , its some aps(newer versions then what's in the lmde repos) and of course some of these aps offer ('read require') to fetch lib x and lib y witch for all i know can have some undesired system wide implications and as such was conside...

Lmde xfce update sorce change ??

the mint lmde xfce updates seem to have dried out for now , so i wonder if its ok to switch to deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free as a sorce for updates(it lists smth along the lines of 1.2k updates available(roughly 1gb)) and if doing so is it going to break compatiblili...
