Re: Wireless becomes unavailable every time I close and open my laptop (hard block)
I have a Clevo W150 and I get this problem too. Once I close it (which I rarely do, since I use the laptop mostly as a skinny desktop) and reopen it, Mint can't find any wireless networks and I have to reboot. I'm running kernel 4.4.0.38.

Re: Error while launching on Linux Mint 18 (64bit)
I am getting the same error message since installing Sarah, but until recently it didn't prevent boot. Now it does, but not always, and not on any schedule I can detect. As of the last couple of weeks, my system occasionally goes to text on a black screen, mentioning fifo underrun and a bunch of stu...

Re: LM13 and LMDE - Useless auto update manager
So there have been a couple of updates to mint-update since these posts were made, yet the problem has not been fixed. I still find it hard to understand why a function that has worked perfectly since at least 4.0 has experienced this kind of regression.

Re: LM13 and LMDE - Useless auto update manager
I have the same issue with notifications in Maya Cinnamon 64-bit. Every edition of Mint I've used since Daryna notifies me when updates are available ... except now this one. It's not a function we never really had, it's a function we always had but have now lost. Of course I can work around it by c...

Re: Anybody else have this weird problem with nvidia-current
Really, nobody else has encountered this? How odd. I feel so lonely. :( I ended up not being crazy about 173, for some reason I can't now recall, so I went back to nvidia-current. The problem mentioned above is still there, but it's livable. I just wish I knew why it was happening; it's behavior tha...

Anybody else have this weird problem with nvidia-current?
System specs are in my sig. I recently did a clean install of Katya and chose the proprietary drivers for my NVidia Go 7700 graphics card. I then encountered a weird problem. When i scrolled up and down on a web page, especially one with lots of links (like a forum where you could click on all the t...

Re: How can I upgrade my hdd without screwing up my system?
It's probably just me, but I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what you're trying to do. Which HDD are you trying to replace? Which OS? I recently upgraded the single HDD in my laptop. Here's what I did: 1. Backed up my data to an external HDD, then unmounted and removed that external drive...

Best way to upgrade BOTH XP and Mint on double boot?
Right now I've got my laptop double-booting with XP and Mint 10. I'm considering not only upgrading to Katya when it comes out but also upgrading XP to Windows 7 (I hav 7 on other computers and like it better than i thought I would). I still need Windows for a few tasks and can't do without it compl...

Re: Microsoft Silver Light Linux Alternative????
I think Moonlight is what you need (the open source equivalent of Silverlight). IIRC it usually lags a version or two behind Silverlight, but it might work for you anyway. I forget if it's in the Mint repositories. If it's not, you can get it here: http://www.mono-project.com/Moonlight There may be ...

It doesn't matter what card or router or computer you have. These linux experts always dodge the real issue; that something is wrong with WICD and Network Manager. Fedora, Ubuntu, Mint... doesn't matter. Wifi problems are what every single linux distro has in common. There are literally thousands o...

Re: arbitrary wifi connectivity
It may have something to do with the Intel 4965 wireless card. Apparently there are problems with Ubuntu 10.10 (and hence Mint 10) and some Intel cards (Google "Maverick" and "iwlagn" or "Intel wireless"). I have the same Intel 4965 you do, and with Mint 10 I have a num...

Re: Nautilus & Gnome Panel not loading?
No answers here, just want to confirm that I have this problem too, specifically with Gnome Panel. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and a repeat login almost always fixes it, without a full reboot.
If someone knows the answer, I'd love to hear it.

Re: semi pro recording studio. possible?
You might also look at Ubuntu Studio and the distribution that Indamixx sells (Transmission). Really, there are a lot of the same apps, but the way the distro is tuned and assembled may differ. And not all FireWire interfaces are supported; you should look at ffado.org to see if yours is. http://ubu...

Re: Mint 10: double-clicking a .deb doesn't install it anymo
Right clicking on the .Deb package should Have 'Open with Gdebi' as an option also. eddie It does. The issue is just that the *default action* for a .deb (ie, to open it with GDebi) was changed, to something that IMO makes less sense. As proxima pointed out, the default can be changed back to the w...

D'oh! Thanks, I knew that the answer would be simple and that I'd feel dumb when I heard it....proxima_centauri wrote:Right-click the deb, go to Properties. Navigate to the Open With tab, and change the bubble to use gdebi instead of archive manager.

Mint 10: double-clicking a .deb doesn't install it anymore
I'm sure there's a stupidly simple answer to this, i just don't know what it is. It used to be that whenever I double-clicked on a downloaded .deb file, GDebi automatically installed it. Now, in Julia, that doesn't happen. Double-clicking just opens up the archive, without installing. Anybody know h...

Re: Can't get hibernation off and Firefox issues
I have the same problem. Nothing I do in Power management in the Control Center seems to change what the computer is doing. EDIT: D'oh! It's a simple fix. Just tweak the Screensaver settings in the CC, as noted in this earlier thread (which I missed): http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&a...
