Re: Need an Ipod Replacement - anyone used a Sansa Clip+

Due to getting irritated with not having an ipod, I went out today and bought a 16GB Creative Zen X-fi3, on the basis that it can be expanded with a micro SD card, plays aac/m4a files and has some nice features, notably an FM radio and drag-and-drop functionality when connecting to a computer. I abs...

Re: Need an Ipod Replacement - anyone used a Sansa Clip+

Excellent, thanks for the information. I'm not looking for an ipod touch either - I don't know why I would want my mp3 player to also do a whole load of other pointless tasks badly. Anyway, thanks a lot, it sounds promising but I'd need to use an SD card with one because of the size of my collection...

Need an Ipod Replacement - anyone used a Sansa Clip+

My 2007 Ipod Classic seems to have broken - it's limping along after a bunch of restores, repairs etc. I'm looking for something to replace it - something with at least 20GB storage which will talk to Banshee. I've looked at the Sandisk Sansa Clip+ player which uses a micro SD card to have 8GB capac...

Re: Very slow wireless with Samsung Netbook, Centrino N-130

Thanks for a very thorough reply. I ran /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintWifi/mintWifi.py for some diagnostics, below is the iwconfig output: wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:"******" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: ******* Bit Rate=54 Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fra...

Very slow wireless with Samsung Netbook, Centrino N-130

I'm using a Samsung NC110 Netbook with Mint 12. The netbook has a Centrino Mobile-N 130 wireless adapter (rev 34). The driver is listed as iwlagn. The problem is that although it can find and connect to Wifi networks, it has very slow internet access. It takes a long time to connect to a site, and a...

Re: Is the dev/mapper/cryptswap1 error fatal?

The link you've given there seems to refer only to where people don't have encrypted drives - at a first reading at least it seems to indicate that people are getting the error when they didn't encrypt their drives on installation.

Is the dev/mapper/cryptswap1 error fatal?

I've read a little about a bug where dev/mapper/cryptswap1 can't mount the encrypted home folder drive for encryption on boot, and I'm getting this on one of my laptops with encrypted home folder. If left for a few seconds the error message goes away and the boot continues. Is this a fatal error or ...

[solved] Protecting Hosts File

Solved - chattr was the command i was looking for, seems to have done the job for now, although separate user accounts will be the way to go in future. I've been modifying the /etc/hosts file to prevent my flatmates from accessing certain websites on my laptop (long story, don't ask!). However, they...
