Re: Debian_version
I wish the version of LMDE was MATE instead of Cinnamon......Cause MATE runs better. You can use MATE instead. Install the MATE desktop. Then you can get a list of desktop managers to use when you login. I've set MATE to default -- I still leave Cinnamon installed. I like a little Compiz on top of ...

Re: Debian_version
So it's fixed in the latest?
I just saw that Debian has pushed out a 10.5 (6 days ago). I'll be doing an update today.
I'm not yet using LMDE4 as my daily driver yet. I'm tracking down why the power consumption is 0.5 W higher on it then with LMDE3 or with LMDE3 with Buster packages installed.

Re: Debian_version
It's looking like an oversight, since they use their own base-files, it seems they are simply forgetting to update the file when they push the new release.

Re: Debian_version
cat /etc/debian_version 10.2 With debian distributions, I've always used this file to determine or remind me if I've updated the particular system already without actually checking in aptitude. Debian likes to push out these sub-releases/updates every few months. I'm wondering if LMDE is not keeping...

Debian_version
Hi just recently upgraded from LMDE3 to LMD4.
What should be the debian_version number? Mine is showing 10.2. Is the LMDE4 not making direct use of the debian repos? Should it not be reflecting 10.4 (the latest as of May 2020)?

Re: LMDE 3 and Buster [SOLVED]
No issues with "upgrading" to Buster on LMDE 3.0 here. I use BTRFS, so I have a snapshot of LMDE 3.0 pre-upgrade-to-buster, so whenever LMDE 4.0 comes out, I'll just upgrade from the snapshot rather then this Frankenstein upgrade. I had no issues. Everything works nicely. A few Stretch-bas...

Re: Convert LMDE2 Mate to Cinnamon Edition
I am running a successful LMDE3 Cinnamon install from a LMDE2 Mate upgrade (which was upgraded previously from a LMDE1 Mate). Just follow the original post about switching the install to "Cinnamon" before you upgrade. You can leave Mate installed. Mate will be downgraded to 16.1, which wil...

Re: LMDE3 /etc/debian_version
I agree. It is not vitally important. I'm used to always checking the /etc/debian_version periodically on my computers and servers to gauge where they are at. It was working properly on LMDE2, as the most previous version I was on before upgrading to LMDE3 was showing 8.11. It isn't a biggie.

Re: Fresh Install LMDE - Was fine for a Few Days
You forgot to mention if you are running your OS off USB as suggested by the error. If you are running your OS off USB, is it a self-powered drive? USB 3?
Error code 110 indicates inadequate power to the USB drive.

Re: LMDE3 /etc/debian_version
I guess this is something new with LMDE3. As attached, it seems there is a LMDE3 version which is making it stick to 9.3, but as long as I use this package check, I'll always be able to confirm where my install is.

Re: My upgraded LMDE3 will only boot to sysvinit
I tried to give it a try again today, booting into systemd by removing init=/lib/sysvinit/init from the grub startup, and it worked. Not sure was causing it to repeatedly fail the first time around.

LMDE3 /etc/debian_version
After upgrading from LMDE2 to LMDE3, I'm shocked the version in /etc/debian_version is reported as 9.3,as the latest stretch is 9.7. There are no new updates to apply and my apt sources is correctly pointing to the correct source. /etc/apt/sources.list.d $ cat official-package-repositories.list deb ...

Re: Timeshift and the Settings
I was forced to enable timeshift in order to perform the upgrade from LMDE2 to LMDE3 -- it is a pre-req and won't let you start the upgrade. I noticed from your post that BTRFS is supported. I use BTRFS snapshot (been using them since 2012). What's the difference between doing BTRFS snapshots and &q...

Re: My upgraded LMDE3 will only boot to sysvinit
I confirmed my system is actually using systemd
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 Jan 15 04:59 init -> /lib/systemd/systemd
But the system won't boot without init=/lib/sysvinit/init in the grub

My upgraded LMDE3 will only boot to sysvinit
After upgrading from LMDE2 cinnamon to LMD3, when I boot up, from the grub menu, the system will only boot up if I select to boot using sysvinit (which is a new option that didn't exist before the upgrade). If I boot up to the normal system (systemd), it will only boot up in recovery mode. I can't f...
