Re: No Internet connection

Not too many pieces of advice yet .......... So open a terminal, and run mintwifi. Post the output here for others to help you. You can copy text to/from the terminal, see its Edit menu. Since I can't get LMDE on the net, that may prove to be a bit difficult :? That being said, I will close ou...

No Internet connection

OK, so I know I'm not a newbie, but I'm such a computer illiterate I have to go to the newbie questions to find answers for all my problems -- just an old dunce that don't know/can't remember how to overcome some of the difficulties I experience with using Linux ( I can't use Windows either ;-) ). I...

Re: Dumped LMDE for now!

I've finally got LMDE running the way it should - I think :!: I reinstalled the XFCE version, had problems with it, but this time when it pooped out on me, I installed LXDE and removed that pesky XFCE - then I got rid of the logout problem by installing another login manager, now I've got everythin...

Re: No updates?

Since I didn't create "update manager" and it pretty much does what it want's how do you hold me responsible for the issues? I simple run the thing. I didn't program it, or have ANY part in it's creation, now did I? I guess we are all supposed to be gurus in Linux before we attempt to run...

Re: Fails to load application menu

I installed and removed xfce4 twice - no results! I finally resolved this issue (sort of) - I downloaded and installed LXDE, and then downloaded and installed Light DM - then I removed XFCE4 for the last time, removed gdm3, and now I can select whatever session I want, rather than being stuck with a...

Re: Fails to load application menu

Here's the output of my most recent attempt at getting xfce4-panel reconfigured: # dpkg-reconfigure xfce4-panel dpkg-maintscript-helper: warning: environment variable DPKG_MAINTSCRIPT_NAME missing dpkg-maintscript-helper: warning: environment variable DPKG_MAINTSCRIPT_PACKAGE missing Maybe this will...

Re: Fails to load application menu

Yes, I did try reconfiguring XFCE4 panel - there's none there! I wonder if it would help if I remove XFCE4 - try to install another DE and WM, then reinstall XFCE - maybe I could get an applications menu back crosses fingers: - Ya think? :?: :?:

Since I got NO responses - due to you moving my request - I have already re-installed, this time the applications menu has disappeared (different thread). Thanks anyways!

Wireless connection?

I was away this weekend and was at a Motel. I opened up LMDE menu, but couldn't find anything to help me connect to wireless in the motel! What app do you use and how do you use it? Is there any configuration involved, and if so, how do I configure it if I don't know the IP address, etc.?
Thanks

Thanks, by moving my question, you've made it possible for me to get NO response, why did I bother to ask?

Re: Fails to load application menu

I always use apt-cache search to find if packages are available, but if I don't find a package or don't know what package name to use, I go to Debian packages and search out the individual package. I use apt-get to install, synaptic has never flipped my switch, but I have used it on occasion. It's j...

Re: Fails to load application menu

I've really got a winner here :!: I downloaded and installed the xfce version of LMDE, used it for a few days, then it went TU   Now, trying to follow the advice above, I'm told there is no xfce-panel, so I tried installing it - there is no package for it :!: So, I decided to reconfigure...

Fails to load application menu {solved-sort of}

After I login and the desktop comes up, I click on the menu button on the bottom of the screen. Instead of getting my menu, I get a dialog box which says: Error Failed to load applications menu Error on line 1 char1: Document must begin with an element (e.g.<book>) I can still right-click on the des...

Re: Upgrading the kernel

Hello bootmarkr, that task can be easily done using synaptics package manager, follow the steps: 1. Launch synaptics 2. Click on the search button or hit Ctrl+f 3. Type linux-image and hit Enter, that will display a list of packages 4. Look for the package named linux-image-3.0.0-16-generic and mar...
