if you want kde, you have to install it at some point
Yes, but it's a pity that nobody prior to secipolla mentioned the when and the where for installing kde. I assumed that since a qt.kde repo was being used that the required kde files would be supplied from there.

Many thanks for that vital piece of information about KDE. I do not recall that being mentioned earlier, but never mind. I have learned a lot whilst dealing with various errors.
Hopefully my post may make it easier for others in the future.
