Error when trying to install flatpaks via Software Center or Terminal

Hey all, I've been trying to fix this but I've failed successively. So I had my root partition filled the other day, and I thought that my flatpak folder was the culprit. Therefore, I decided to move /var/lib/flaptak to the /home partition, create a symlink and delete the original. I made a mistake ...

Re: LibreOffice Calc Vs. Excel for Excel Power Users

Unfortunately, for really advanced use LibreOffice is not a viable alternative to Microsoft Office. Especially in your case. Even Office via Crossover is not advisable because only the big three modules are usually tested and more advanced functionalities might not work... If you want to move to Lin...

Re: What happened to smb-share in Mint 19

It's an Ubuntu 18.04 bug... And as that is the base of Mint 19, it also affects it.

Re: Want Mint 19 but still want KDE? Have 18.3 KDE installed? Read on!

It's a pity that Mint devs decided to drop Plasma 5. :( Currently, it is the best DE in the Linux world. I am happy with Cinnamon in Mint 19, but there are few applets that work perfectly with Mint. Quite frankly, Cinnamon needs to adopt some applets and give them official support. In Plasma there a...

Re: Invisible Windows network shares w Mint 18.3

I read your post a couple of times and it's not clear to me if you are running Mint18 or Mint19. I had changed the smb min and max versions to 2 and 3 on the NAS and in smb.conf earlier, Note : SMB1 ( aka NT1 ) and netbios name browsing are linked. Cannot have one without the other. It's not a netb...

Re: Mint 19 Network SAMBA shares not shown in File Manager - SOLVED

Finally have all working. On a whim I started computer with a live boot version of Mint 18.3. All networking, printer detection worked so I copied the smb.conf file from its /etc/samba folder. Then rebooted to the installed Mint 19 (where networking/printer detection did not work) and replaced the ...

Re: [SOLVED] Mint 19 - No Samba access in Control Center

Yesterday I spent 4 hours trying to get Mint 19 to recognize Samba shares at my work, and to establish connection to Samba printers. I thought the purpose of Mint was to be user friendly than Ubuntu? If we have to put up with this bullshit what's the difference then? I mean, I love Cinnamon, the fla...

Re: Upstream X/Wayland Developers Bash Canonical

I would donate to the Wayland developers in a Kickstarter or Indiegogo campaign just to see Wayland succeed and Mir failing. As prizes they just need to write the following: "The more money Wayland gets, the more aware AMD and Nvidia will be of the interest of the Linux community that they supp...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

How do you make a shortcut?? What exactly are you talking about? We ain't got shortcuts in Linux land. We got Launchers and we got symlinks. And shortcut where? Desktop? In Cinnamon, you make a launcher by right clicking a menu entry and selecting "Add to desktop". You make a syml...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

I use two desktop environments in Mint 12: Cinnamon and KDE. I actually prefer KDE over Cinnamon since it seems that both aim for the same purpose: a traditional desktop interface that gives a lot of tools for customization but KDE is much more polished. I love the Dolphin file manager over Nautilus...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

For the life of me, I really cannot understand why people hate Unity so much. It has allowed an incredible increase of productivity when I use my computer. The DE is truely a forward thinking approach to using computers while keeping in mind how necessary it will be in the near future to keep your ...

Re: Cinnamon to be default in Mint 13?

With KDE 4.8 I even think that Mint should completely move to KDE. They could just theme it heavily to fit the mint theme and get on with it. It has come a really long way. I don't think this is going to happen. It would kind of defeat the purpose of MATE and Cinnamon and there are a lot of people ...

Re: If you had ONE request for the Cinnamon devs what would

One request it would be this right now. Quite simple: - In the Cinnamon Settings - Themes --> Other Settings there should be a preview of how changing the different themes will change the look of the Windows, Icons, GTK+, etc with at least a screenshot of the new look. To see how changing themes imp...
