wireless dongle recognized but how get it to see networks?

I'm new to Linux, running Linux Mint LXDE 11. I've gotten my Netgear WPN111 recognized, driver installed, blue light blinking - used ndiswrapper.
How do I get it to see the open network in my apartment? Ethernet cable works fine.
Thanks in advance for your patience with my "newness".
