Re: mint 10 kde flaky or what?

I know old topic. I just wanted to add that it isn't Mint. It is KDE and the fact that they released a highly buggy version, instead of testing it further -KDE 4.6.5. I've been using KDE for nearly 7 years now. My husband, thankfully, downloaded Mint KDE 9 after he was using Mint KDE 5 for over thre...

Re: wvdial no longer works Felicia Gnome or Elyssa KDE [solv

I wanted to post this as i couldn't find the answer, since dial up seems to be a lost cause for developers as they don't use it, which is one reason I am not upgrading to Gloria or later, as from what I have heard, wvdial is no longer included (an upstream bad decision). Regards, cubby Glad to have...

Re: wvdial no longer works Felicia Gnome or Elyssa KDE [solved]

Update: to find out if this was caused by an update of the past month, I installed Mint Gnome Felicia on an extra partition and did my usual set up of wvdail after adding "connect to internet using modem" under user settings>privileges (reboot). Wvdial works, so yes, an update caused this....

wvdial no longer works Felicia Gnome or Elyssa KDE [solved]

Hi, (Edited to correct my assumption. I installed and tried wvdial in pardus 2009 and it too had same error messages. Time to email my isp and see if they can inform me of any changes they have made in the past month. I use basicisp.net which uses Level 3 Telecommunications servers. The third-party ...

Re: Stuck with Mint 5

Hi Toxic, There's nothing wrong with sticking with Mint KDE 5 Elyssa. Maybe using with hardware that isn't the newest is the best approach to using an older release. I'm using it as well but I am also trying out KDE4 desktop version which is gradually improving over time, and by Spring, there should...

Re: Dual Boot Mint & Win7 menu.lst Issue

Hi Froggy, You also should read the following link, using GParted live disk to first set up your partition, and then try installing Mint. Sometimes it makes for a better install of a distro when you prepare your partition first using this utility. I am not familiar with Windows Seven, especially if ...

Re: Dialup connection using Gnome-ppp disconecting

Ah, I was hoping that would work. Sorry. If you ever give Linux another go, I would suggest getting it in the KDE desktop, as I find KPPP dial up utility easy to set up. Some distos with KDE desktop also use another dial up utility called Kinternet. Both work for me, as well as command line wvdial. ...

Re: Things I would like to see in future Mints

Since I never install nVidia proprietary drivers for my geforce 8500 card, I use default nv driver and it isn't that great. Yes, I did try the proprietary driver once, but I wasn't impressed when I finally got it to work. I'm using Nouveau in another distro and what a difference - very crisp look to...

Re: Dialup connection using Gnome-ppp disconecting

That's amazing how you were able to set up a virtual machine. I have never set up a virtual machine. That's a lot of work! What happens when you open up a terminal and give the command: "sudo wvdial"? I forgot to ask. If your wvdial terminal output looks like this: WvDial<*1>: Modem initia...

Re: Dual Boot Mint & Win7 menu.lst Issue

Hi Froggy, I'm a newbie, too, but I do have some recent experiences with some of the terminal commands that give specific outputs as I've been doing a bit of debugging-and learning along the way. Let's see, I don't know if this forum can minimize a dmesg output, but if you do post the output of dmes...

Re: firefox, slow scrolling

One person that had problems with 3.5.2 needed to disable autoscroll, but this assumed you have it set to "true" in hidden settings of about:config under generalAutoscroll.

Re: Dialup connection using Gnome-ppp disconecting

Hi Mawaheb, Yes, still using dial up here. We live ten miles from town and that puts us out of option for DSL or wireless connection. There is now option to rent satellite equipment and pay a monthly fee, but it is much too expensive. With a land line that costs 27 dollars monthly, and dial up ISP t...

Re: Dual Boot Mint & Win7 menu.lst Issue

Hi Froggy, How are you editing the menu.lst? for me I would use terminal command gksu gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst Concerning the blinking cursor means you have no x session. Looks like you'll need to post a copy of your dmesg and xorg.o.log. What graphics do you use? On board or a card? At blinking cu...

Mint Gnome 6 64 bits, installed KDE stuff and can't use kppp

Hi all, I've been using Mint 6 for 64 bits with Gnome desktop and just recently installed KDE stuff on it as I prefer KDE. I know I could get the KDE version, but I'm using dial up and it takes so long to download it, that I've decided to just stack KDE on top of Gnome. I installed all of the packag...

Re: Dialup connection using Gnome-ppp disconecting

Hi Mawaheb, Hey, it's good to see another dial up user. There are more of us out there than operating system creators realize! Can you dial up using terminal/console with wvdial command? I'm certain that gnome ppp realies on wvdial.conf to dial up. I just set up wvdial on Mint Gnome 6. sudo wvdialco...

Re: Disable Firefox 3 from storing bookmarks in location bar

Hi all, Sorry I didn't reply sooner to your comments. When my husband bought our first home PC years ago, the first thing he did was to buy Netscape Navigator, and delete IE, so I've never used IE. I use Konqueror or Opera. My gripe was that is isn't easy to clear this Smart Location Bar. If one ctl...

Disable Firefox 3 from storing bookmarks in location bar

Hi, I just noticed that with the latest version of Firefox 3, that my location bar was full of URL addresses and unticking Keep My History for At least 0 Days didn't work. Clear Private Data didn't work. Left cliking on the arrow on the right end of the location bar, highlighting the URL, CNTL+DEL w...

Re: access denied

Maybe this isn't the same issue, but I just installed Linux Mint Felicia Gnome for 64 bit processor, I did the usual set up for my external MultiTech MT5634ZBA-USB modem ran as root, wvdialconf then edited /etc/wvdial.conf to change the baud rate to 38400, entered my ISP's phone number, password and...

I've been using Mint Gnome for almost a year now. Though I steer towards the KDE des...

Re: US Robotics ext. modem dial-up remedied

Since I don't like to be without a backup modem, I recently looked at MultiTech brand. I purchased the MultiModem MT9234ZBA-USB unit as the specs mention is it compatible with LINUX. Well, I found out from the read me file that I would have to recompile my kernel and module to get it to work, so I s...
