EFI and legacy hdds conflict on BootUp

I had Mint 17.3 on my desktop (1 TB sata) and a spare internal backup (500GB sata) hdd that still contains Mint 13 but has been stripped of the data. The spare internal 500GB disc was used to copy the "home" folder as a backup for Mint 17 on the 1TB hdd. Unfortunately I didn't select the "view hidde...

Hi All, Some developments: After changing the bios to allow "UEFI and Legacy" I got this message. " This machine's firmware has started the installer in UEFI mode but it looks like there may be existing operating systems already installed using "BIOS compatibility mode". If you continue to install D...

Hi WharfeRat, No, Not trying to replace the contents of sda. I just want to protect it until I get the installation of 19.2 onto the new SSD. Then put the home folder on sda, make sure everything's working and clean up sda. If I can be sure that the disc (sda) will not be overwritten when I install ...

Re: Upgrade: Mint 19 "Operating System not found"

HI deepakdeshp, I can't use the option to install alongside because it doesn't see the existing operating system. Also, I want to install onto the new SSD but it doesn't give the option for that in the window either. Although the SSD shows up in the list when using "something else", there's no clear...

Upgrade: Mint 19 "Operating System not found" [SOLVED]

I am trying to upgrade from 17.3 Mate to 19.2 Mate. I've already backed up my "home" folder to a third hard disc. There is no Microsoft operating system on the machine and never will be. The new Operating System (OS) needs to go onto an extra SSD hard disc. However, the installation process brings u...

Re: Lost screen resolution.

Hi mikaeirask, Yes. I intend to change to 19.1 after I've backed up my data. I'm just curious and would like to find out why and how to fix it. I've already tried a 19.1 live disc and it found the correct resolution. I wonder if anyone makes a list of the things to back up rather than backing up the...

Re: Google Earth version update

Hi Lord Boltar,

If I download the newer version from your link, do I have to uninstall the old version first?
Do I have to save "My Places" and reload it?

Re: Google Earth version update

Hi Pepi,

I thought that Linux required Chromium instead of Chrome.
I'll look in the Program Manager to see if Chrome is an option. I don't like using software that's not available in the Program Manager.

Re: Google Earth version update

I think that I'll take Andy MH's advice and ignore it.

(I tried the web based version suggested by Pepi but it said to install Chrome. After installing Chromium I tried again but got the same message)

Google Earth version update (Fixed itself) [SOLVED]

Re: Find files with only numbers ending with jpg

Thanks WarfRat, That worked fine. I didn't realize that it needed an "If" routine to carry on searching through the directory. I tried other ways eg. "find /my-path -type f -regex \d{19}\.jpg" but that found nothing. I also tried with "grep" but to no avail. I'll try tweaking it to learn more. Just ...

Find files with only numbers ending with jpg

I need to find files in a directory of the form:
1113136063269946734.JPG
With either 18, 19 or 20 digits.
I've been trying with the command line using "find" with regex but I'm getting nowhere.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
