Re: Double Commander: where's the trash bin?

Hello, Mint Lounger. Double Commander is still in its beta phase, so features may still be added, I assume. - I spotted 2 requests to add support for trashbin access. No idea whether it will happen or when. By the way, the file-manager Xfe, also available in the official Ubuntu repos, is a two-panel...

Re: trouble with Oracle Java updates

Hello, sleeper12. Hm. I wonder a bit how removing OpenJDK will help in a case where genuine Oracle Java has been installed through a PPA? In addition, in all cases where a user runs / has to run Java based software, which is not uncommon in business environments, the advice to uninstall Java for sec...

Re: Is it possible to make an 'all programs' folder auto populate like Windows?

Just hiding the application launchers is pretty harmless. It is unlikely to break anything. Uninstalling 90% of the applications in the Application Menu, which I consider "useless junk", based on my unbeatable newbie wisdom, might remove a few not quite so irrelevant applications, however. -- Anyway...

Re: Firefox upgrade?

Seems this thread has come to a standstill:
  • When the thread started, Firefox 65 was the recent release, by now all my Ubuntu and Mint systems run Firefox 66.0.3
  • The thread starter UserError stopped responding 20 days ago.

Re: Is it possible to make an 'all programs' folder auto populate like Windows?

Hi, gm10, Moem. Is my understanding correct that the category/sub-menu "All Applications" in the Mint Applications Menu is merely a view , populated by all visible applications, gathered from all application launchers *.desktop ?! (Yes, I am aware that all application launchers *.desktop are located...

Re: Is it possible to make an 'all programs' folder auto populate like Windows?

Hello, 513mb. In the spirit of 2000/XP Both operating systems are dead and have been so for several years. Moreover Linux (Mint) is not Windows. What you can do through the Linux Mint menu editor is ... create a sub-menu named "All Programs" copy all application launcher items, which you want to see...

Re: trouble with Oracle Java updates

Hello, JosephPG. Use Software Sources from the Mint Application Menu and remove the PPA "Oracle Java (JDK) 8 Installer PPA" (ppa:webupd8team/java). It has been discontinued and can no longer be used to update Oracle Java through Update Manager. You will find the explanation why this is the case here...

Re: Double Commander: where's the trash bin?

Hello, Mint Lounger. Personally I do not use Double Commander (yet). As Double Commander tries to imitate the behaviour of the Windows file-manager Total Commander, I had hoped that right-clicking on the [Delete-F8] button might have the same effect as in Total Commander. In T.C. it offers to open t...

Re: HP Mini net/note book

Hello, Richardj. To be quite frank: Anything above Mint 19.x 32-bit with the xfce desktop will be overkill for this machine. And even with Mint 19.x 32-bit xfce do not expect it to run like a racing machine. Yet, it should definitely run faster than on Windows 7 or 10. The 2 worst bottlenecks are th...

Have you tried right-clicking on the button [Delete - F8] in the bottom buttonbar? It might offer access to the Linux trash bin.

Best regards,

Re: Why default setting is folder bottom bar showing useless info instead of folder related data?

Hi, smurphos. Thunar's display is barely useful and borderline misleading in my opinion. The size at the bottom only enumerates files in that folder - not any sub-folders and their contents. You are right. Thunar does not sum up the filesizes in the sub-directories automatically. I do not complain a...

Re: Why default setting is folder bottom bar showing useless info instead of folder related data?

Of course seeing the available filesystem space on your current filesystem all the time is useful. majpooper and hcentaur13 had already explained why. Realizing your filesystem is about to run out of space before this happens should be relevant to every user, no matter whether the user has got a tec...
