Re: Linux Mint 12 Lisa 64 bit

Hello, chinook. I would not recommend doing so. Which Mint 19 ISO file had you downloaded? I mean what was the precise filename? Did it have a "V2" in its filename? Some users recommend not connecting to the internet during the installation. I guess because they have experienced issues like you are ...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Lisa 64 bit

Hello, chinook. You mark the /dev/sda6 line. Then you click on the [Change] button, not the [+] button, because /dev/sda6 already exists. You leave everything in the dialogue box as it is. You keep the old size. You keep the filesystem type ext4. You only make sure that the Mount Point is set to / ....

Re: My whine about Wine and Mint 19

Hello, a60man. On Mint 18.3 you might use winecfg from the Wine submenu and find out which Windows version Wine tries to mimick. I just remembered this: On Mint 18.x Wine 1.6.2 is told to pretend to be Windows XP SP3. No trouble with my (Windows) applications. On Mint 19 Wine 3.0 defaulted to preten...

Re: My whine about Wine and Mint 19

Hello, a60man. Now, can I update 18.3 to 19 through system update? No, you cannot upgrade from Mint 18.3 to Mint 19 with the help of Update Manager. Clem's official step by step instruction on how to upgrade in-place from Mint 18.3 to Mint 19 can be found here: How to upgrade to Linux Mint 19 It has...

Re: upgrade, but, the disk space is full

Yep - - this LM19 series is installing a whole lot more kernel(s) than is normally done. Hm. Cannot really confirm so. To me it looks as if Ubuntu deploys roughly the same number of kernel updates on Mint 18.x (Ubuntu 16.04) and on Mint 19 (Ubuntu 18.04) in a given timespan. I assume that on Mint 1...

Hi, gm10. I assume these lines near the end update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-38-generic WARNING: missing /lib/modules/4.13.0-38-generic Ensure all necessary drivers are built into the linux image! depmod: ERROR: could not open directory /lib/modules/4.13.0-38-generic: No such fil...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Lisa 64 bit

Hi, JoeFootball. You are absolutely right. Why only did I try to re-invent the wheel and post my gparted screenshot, although a much better installer screenshot is available in the Official Installation Guide? https://linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/_images/installer-par...

Re: My whine about Wine and Mint 19

Hi. The only unfriendly change in Wine, which I have noticed is this: Ubuntu 16.04 / Mint 18.x installed Wine 1.6.2 from the official Ubuntu repos. Installing Wine 1.6.2 would create an application submenu "Wine", which held the items "Wine Configuration" (winecfg), "Editor" (notepad), "Wine browser...

Re: Update Manager Problem

Hi, gm10. OK. I had not checked whether the repo in question actually supported bionic (Ubuntu 18.04 ~ Mint 19). In my initial post I had suggested renaming the offending sources list file in order to work around the existing incorrect content. This way it could have been fixed later and rena...

Re: LM19 and Wine

Hi, Linux-Bill. Perhaps my conclusion that Wine-Stable had been installed correctly was not correct? What you could try to verify whether wine-stable is working are the following manual steps: Open a terminal window. Navigate to the Downloads directory. Command cd ~/Downloads Inside the Downloads di...

Re: Update Manager Problem

Hello, RedSky27. In the text line deb http://download.rethinkdb.com/apt main the nickname of the Ubuntu release seems to be missing, which your Mint is based on. As you use Mint 19, the missing nickname will be bionic . Edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/rethinkdb.list with root permissions in a ...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Lisa 64 bit

Hello, chinook. Should I revert to installing next to Windows? No, this should not be necessary. In the same window where you select /dev/sda6 as the target partition for installing, there should be a choice of defining / as the mount point for /dev/sda6. By doing so the installer will know that the...

Re: LM19 and Wine

Hello, Linux-Bill. First: apt-cache suggests that you have correctly installed Wine-Stable from the official (Ubuntu) software repositories. Good. Second: about the "open with" dialogue box: Here on Cinnamon in file-manager Nemo, this dialogue box has got an edit box below the list of known applicat...

Re: Laptop: Mint 19 Tara - Random crashes/relogin to desktop

Hello, Yoshi. The first command which returned the permission denied errors, find $HOME ! -user $USER , searches for files and directories in your home directory ($HOME), which are not owned by you ($USER). $HOME is a variable, which expands to your home directory. $USER is a variable, which expands...

Hello, Linux-Bill. Could you perhaps boot your Linux Mint 19? Next, please, open a terminal window. Re: LM19 and Wine

Hello, Linux-Bill. I fail to see what might be so difficult in installing Wine from the official software repositories on Mint 19. It is as simple as selecting wine-stable from the list of available software packages and installing it. E.g. using Synaptic package manager. Doing so will give you Wine...
