Re: Can't apply changes in driver manager

Hi, Franck. The first thing which I came across, was that enabling the offered drivers software will only be possible, provided "secure boot" has been disabled. Else the system is not permitted to load the driver. This raises the question to you: If this an EFI boot machine? Is "secure boot" still s...

Re: Can't apply changes in driver manager

Hello, Franck. Oh. I guess, I finally understand. Driver Manager offers a driver for your wifi adapter. Yet, the system does not load it at all. Network: Card-1: Broadcom Limited BCM43142 802.11b/g/n bus-ID: 07:00.0 IF: N/A state: N/A mac: N/A Let me do some search whether the combination + Toshiba ...

Re: Mint 19 Mate: Screen goes to sleep and never wakes up

Hello, somelurker. I vaguely remember that Mate screensaver would not manage to wake up my monitor here, either, once it had decided to go to sleep after the configured timeout had been exceeded. I used Mate Tweak in order to tell Marco to make use of Compton. So it is Marco (Compton+GPU Composit) h...

Re: Can't apply changes in driver manager

Hello, Franck. To me it looks as if your system can use exactly the wifi driver to be seen in your screenshot. It is already in use. So you only have the choice between using the driver (no change, hence nothing to apply) not using the driver (selecting this should enable the apply button, but not r...

Brief question, asked a million times before and answered a millions times before. Hence, another brief answer:

Re: How to unzip a file??

No, if you create multipart zip-archives, in this case you get name.z01, name.z02 ... name.z99 and name.zip
(whereby the highest number is not necessarily 99, depends on the number of zip-parts which have been created.)

Re: Mint 19 – grey empty desktop after kernel update to 4.15.0.42.44

Hello, Mark_1. We'll be patiently waiting to read your next post, hoping the issue will not have re-appeared. By the way, just today kernel update 4.15.0-42.45 has been installed on Mint 19 Cinnamon here. The system has been rebooted in order to load the new kernel. And ... Cinnamon has come up norm...

Re: Mint 19 – grey empty desktop after kernel update to 4.15.0.42.44

Admitted. But the version string confusion is not what may cause Mark_1's Mint 19 Cinnamon to drop back to software rendering mode, after it has been started up with kernel 4.15.0-42.45. -- Just occurs to me: my Mint 19 Cinnamon+xfce system has not been upgraded to kernel 4.15.0-42.45, yet. So maybe...

Hi, gm10. I stick with what uname -a displays. --Thursday, 06-Dec-2018 21:45-- As I saw just this evening: The Update Manager displays the Linux kernel header packages group giving 4.15.0-42.44 as their version string. The same Update Manager displays the Linux kernel generic packages group g...

Re: Mint 19 – grey empty desktop after kernel update to 4.15.0.42.44

Hello, Mark_1. Just 2 remarks from my side: no issues until the recent kernel update to 4.15.0.42.44. I assume the kernel version really was 4.15.0-42.45. Apart from that: yes, in rare cases a new kernel may bring along a regression, which affects precisely your hardware. As I do not know any...

Re: Wifi not working "newbie"

Hello, Hawkeye_95. I do not wish to disappoint you; yet, it might be that the wifi adapter Realtek RTL8821CE is currently not supported by any Linux kernel, because Realtek has not made the wifi driver source code available. This is at least, what JeremyB repored here only recently. And JeremyB as a...

Re: Removing old kernels

Hi, Simon. There are quite few threads in the forum, covering the topic of cleaning up no longer needed kernels. Personally, I keep the currently running kernel (Who would have suspected so) plus the previous kernel and the kernel before that one. So a total of 3 kernels. Yet, really, it would be su...

Re: [SOLVED] Installing LM19 Tara and retaining users from LM18.3 /home

Hello, BG405. Let me add this detail: Whether you have to use chown on the existing old home directories or not, does not depend on the usernames, but on their UIDs. Provided you create the same users and they have the same usernames and the same UIDs as on the old system, then you will not have to ...

Hi, gm10. OK. You are right.
