Re: Upgrade path from Mint 14?

Hi, AK Dave. Linux Mint 14 was based on Ubuntu. LMDE 2 is based on Debian. In case you want to switch from the outdated and de-supported Linux Mint 14 to LMDE 2, then this can only be done by installing LMDE 2 from scratch. In case you want to stay with the Ubuntu based Linux Mint editions, then upg...

Re: browser: alternatives to Firefox 57

i'm sticking with Palemoon No problem. At the moment I am doing the same. When FF56.0 entred the scene, I made PaleMoon my default browser. and force lock FF 56 Very bad idea really. Every new Firefox version, like every other browser's new version, closes a number of security holes. Clinging to an...

Re: Firefox 57 - Quantum

We already have TWO threads on the same topic (with virtually the same names). I would think a better use of your energy would be to merge those two threads. Actually, there is a minimum of 3 parallel threads all titled alike: ⋅  Firefox 57 - Quantum (where we are now) ⋅  Firefo...

Installing NewFirefox 57 Quantum

the new FF57 update [...] looks a bit clunky, when compared to FF56, though. :( Hm. Yes and no. Yes, compared to FF56.0 beautified by CTR. No, compared to FF56.0 pure. https://abload.de/img/ff57_devtheme6nrrh.png (Click on screenshot to enlarge. Press <alt><cursor left> to return here.) Already sta...

Re: Installing the new firefox

No more reason to fiddle around with the .tar.bz2 file, downloaded from the Mozilla website. The official software repositories offer Firefox 57.0 to your update-managers. Installation is a simple as accepting the update and (re)starting Firefox 57.0.

Re: Flash player crashes on right click in firefox 56

Hi, bobsuperjohnbobson. By now update-manager should offer you 2 browser related updates - unless you have already installed them: + Flash plugin update from 27.0.0.183 to 27.0.0.187 + Firefox update from 56.0 to 57.0 In case the problem persists on Firefox 57.0 with Flash plugin 27.0.0.187, then mo...

The update-manager took care of the update from Firefox 56.0 to 57.0.
No need to fiddle around manually with anything.

Re: Bluetooth is working but Wifi is not

Hi, beegee.

Please, post the terminal output generated by the command

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
This will give us a concise overview on your system specification. It will also give us some basic information on what Mint "thinks about" your wifi interface.

Best regards,
Karl

Re: Installing the new firefox

Hi, austin.texas.

My apologies.
Here from home I read the same page as your screenshot displays.
From the office machine the advice in the box on top was not present. Maybe our company proxy server gave me an outdated cached version.

Cheers,
Karl

Re: Installing the new firefox

The advice from mozilla.org is to use the Firefox version in the repository... If you use your Linux distribution's packaged version of Firefox, you will need to wait for an updated package to be released to its package repository. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version ...

This is exactly what is going to happen: Update Manager will offer you the update from Firefox 56.0 to Firefox 57.0 as soon as possible, very likely no sooner.

Re: time not equal to bios

Hello, liberace. By default Linux Mint (all Linux distributions) display the local time, but use UTC internally and set the computer hardware clock accordingly. So the difference of 8 hours will be the difference between your local time and UTC. Could this be the explanation? My timezone is CET, whi...
