Re: trouble with FireFox and Thunderbird today

Hello, oxygenfarm.

As the reported issues started today, the question is what changed on the system yesterday or the day before yesterday?
You have tried shutting down the machine, switching it on and finding out whether the problems returned?

Re: screen shot

Hello, chazb.

Use the screenshot application which comes pre-installed on your Linux Mint 17.
Independently of the desktop environment which you use (Mate, Cinnamon, xfce, KDE), it should be found under: [Mint] => Accessories => Screenshots

Re: Hacking a computer using DNA is now a reality

Hm. I fail to see what is so special about "hacking a computer with a specially crafted DNA strand"? It is just another way of feeding data to a vulnerable programme which then makes this programme do things which it should not do. Quite a few applications have been manipulated in similar ...

Confirmed for Mint 18.x. Same as Ubuntu 16.04, on which Mint 18.x is based. :)

Hm. They are used for the Ubuntu repos.
You are serious about disabling Ubuntu?
I would suggest replacing them with the Ubuntu main repos instead.

Re: Can a thread be "bumped" multiple times?

Hi, Borg101. In case you have to bump a thread more than twice, you might start wondering whether you perhaps explained the question or the problem not well enough. (Or you asked a question which has been answered dozens of times during the past 2 weeks already.) You might have added a link to that ...

Re: Help needed to HP Deskjet F4580

Hi, Joshua_. More likely than not, you (unknowingly) created the problem by trying to install the most recent HPLIP software from the HP website, without having manually removed the pre-installed HPLIP software 3.16.3 beforehand, which comes pre-installed with Mint 18.1 e.g. (Guess it will be the sa...

Hello, Radar32. I have not followed the instruction which you linked to. Nonetheless, I can assure you that Pale Moon - like Firefox - will look in the directory /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ for the file named libjavaplugin.so . $ ls -l /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3...

Re: Getting an error while updating.

Hello, ShadowSphynx. As the error messages all tell, some software repositories are listed more than once in the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/additional-repositories.list. The solution will be removing the duplicate entries. You can use the Linux Mint application Software Sources in order to identif...

Re: "Your home directory is listed as: '/home/myusername but it does not appear to exist."

Hello, Eliminos.

I suggest using a Linux Mint live system, booting the machine from it and running an fsck from the Linux Mint live system on the internal harddisk where your Linux Mint 17.x system has been installed.

Best regards,
Karl

Re: RkHunter [ Warning ]

Hello, Henri. The lwp-request warning is the default warning which every Rkhunter user will read unless (s)he bothers to whitelist in the rkhunter.conf file. (Doing so would be perfectly all right, because lwp-request is a script on each and every Mint system.) You can also whitelist the files /dev/...
