Re: How to run Excel with VBA Macros

Let me quote what a forum user wrote (non-publically) when reading these 2 posts: [1] , [2] This is not a "free version of Windows" as claimed; instead, it uses the old Win7 feature to extend the "trial period" of 90-days several times. So, the claim is basically false. Also, the OP wants links to a...

Re: apts are upgradable

Hello, AZgl1500. Launch Linux Mint Update Manager (shield icon in the bottom panel). How many pending updates does it display? You may have to click [refresh] in order to get the most recent list of pending software updates. Is Timeshift among them? Click [Install] inside Update Manager in order to ...

Re: Lazarus/fpc version updates

Hello, MikeS.

According to this Lazarus Wiki page, Install on Ubuntu from .deb files, it should be possible to download the .deb files from Sourceforge and install them using dpkg.
You may have to make sure that all dependencies are present on your system and sufficiently recent.

Re: Firefox problem after updating

Hi, McDuff. The details which you explain really suggest that you should be affected by the Firefox 60 and Firejail issue. Even though the term Firejail does not mean anything do you, you might have followed one of the numerous "10 things to do after installing Linux Mint 18" guides and have install...

Re: Firefox problem after updating

Sorry, McDuff. My mistake to start discussing how to open .odt files from inside the browser. Back to the problem which you reported: I have read the messages which are displayed in the terminal when you launch Firefox manually. Yet, I am not sure whether the displayed error messages explain ...

Re: Firefox problem after updating

<side issue> Hi, Flemur. Actually .odt files are .zip archives, having a different filename extension and a specifically structured content. Fileroller will recognize the .odt file as a .zip archive and show the content, files and folders; but of course it does not know how to interpret the content...

Re: Firefox problem after updating

<Side issue> My OS wants to open that file with "file-roller" and shows me a list of files rather than error messages. Are you sure it is your OS and not your browser only? I had to tell my Firefox as well that it should open the .odt file with Libre Office Writer. I do not have to tell my OS, hm, ...

Re: Multiple, basic issues with Mint 18

Hi, Evil Tim. Thanks for posting the inxi -Fxz output. Actually, I cannot spot anything in it which gives a hint why this Lenovo notebook shoud not be able to run Linux Mint 18.3 Mate in a stable way. A note on how to create inxi reports for the future: If possible generate the inxi report logged in...

Hi, Evil Tim. Thank you for your rant about Linux Mint 18. :D I am a bit amazed that you as a long term Unix expert have neglected to provide some basic technical information right away, which would enable us to start analyzing the (technical) problems, which you have encountered: The screen output ...

Split HunteR's post into a new thread Firefox stuck on v58.0, because it is about a different problem, having a different cause and a different solution.

Re: [SOLVED] mint-artwork-common > dpkg error - attn: DEVS [SOLVED]

Hello, nandayo. As a matter of fact the dpkg / mint-artwork-common problem has not been caused by any programme bug in Mint 17.x. As this thread suggests there are exactly 2 reasons, why users stumbled across this problem: Some people used repository mirror servers, which were simply not up-to-date ...

Re: Update manager and kernel updates

Pjotr, thanks for the interesting link. I have always installed level 5 updates (and all others) and never ever had an issue. Re-read Pjotr's article again. In previous releases, up to 18.2, the Update Manager used levels 1 through to 5, whereby 5 held the kernel updates. In the most recent release...
