Rhythmbox and gaps between tracks
There may be other more appropriate forums for this discussion, but since I have used Rhythmbox on Mint for many years, I thought I'd start here. I listen to a lot of opera, where the music is often broken-up into tracks that should nevertheless not have any perceptible sound gap during playback, mu...

Bluetooth error on resume from suspend
The specific error in the logs is Bluetooth: hci0: Reading supported features failed (-16) Basically my machine won't (reliably) wake from suspend, with this error and I need to use a hard shut down. I have found some similar unsolved posts that could relate to this for example https://unix.stackexc...

Re: Virtualbox is messed up since Linux Mint 20 on my multi monitor setup
Others seem to have a similar problem: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=96297 Seems to be related to the 5.4 kernel, but no issues for me running VB 6.1.18 and with a 5.4.0-72 kernel on LM20.1. Are you using two monitors? I ran sudo /sbin/vboxconfig without errors, but the issu...

Re: Virtualbox is messed up since Linux Mint 20 on my multi monitor setup
I have this exact same issue, I did a clean upgrade to LM 20 and I'm using the repo provided by Oracle for VB 6.1. I've never had this issue before, but my second display is new. I can confirm that if I set my primary display back to my laptop and restart VB so that the manager starts on that displa...

Re: [SOLVED]Hardware refresh rate spec differs from actual in xrandr
Thanks, I've marked the issue as SOLVED. Now I ned to search for solutions to upgrading BIOS, I've started a thread in the Lenovo community forums, but generally I think there may be an issue preventing me from upgrading in legacy mode, rather than UEFI mode.

Can't upgrade to 19 because mintupgrade won't downgrade libssl1.1
In stepping through the process using mintupgrade check answering yes to each prompt, eventually the process aborts automatically because of libssl1.1. The following packages will be DOWNGRADED: libssl1.1 2231 upgraded, 370 newly installed, 1 downgraded, 50 to remove and 1 not upgraded. Need to get ...

Re: Hardware refresh rate spec differs from actual in xrandr
@smg super helpful, you're right, I need to use a DP cable for 60 Hz, which I've done - Thanks! However, I'm unable to update my BIOS following the installation instructions on Lenovo Support for the current BIOS utility. fwupdmgr install N1EET90W.cab Decompressing… no attached hardware matched ddc0...

[SOLVED]Hardware refresh rate spec differs from actual in xrandr
I just hooked up a new ThinkVision S28u-10 to my ThinkPad P50 via the supplied HDMI. I changed my graphics driver to NVDIA-384 because there were issues getting the monitor to work at all as an external display. The products specs list the resolution at 3840 x 2160 and refresh rate at 60 Hz, but I'm...

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork
I found a solution to the resize arrows on the panel: Add this to your ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file. Create the the file if you don't have one (I didn't have one in my Linux Mint 12 MATE, so I created it). style "default-style" { GtkWindow::resize-grip-height = 0 GtkWindow::resize-grip-width = 0 } c...

No sound through speakers, ONLY through headphones
I'm trying to understand if this is a hardware or software issue, yesterday I had sound through my laptop (Lenovo Ideapad U260) speakers and today I only have sound through my headphones. I am using Mint 12 with Cinnamon, but the issue persists with other desktops. As far as I know, I haven't made a...

Power management issues
Here's an update for anyone who finds this thread useful. After fully discharging my battery, it now seems that I can charge it to 100%, which will give my particular set-up about 3 hours unplugged. However, if after charging to 100% I go unplugged for only a short while, I cannot charge past the ch...

Re: Lenovo Energy Management software effecting Linux?
If the changes you make while booting don't work or even your system crashes, there's nothing to worry since these changes are non-permanent (only editing /etc/default/grub is permanent). Thanks for your advice, ej64. I haven't yet noticed any improvement after making changes to grub - is there som...

If it's a sandy bridge with hd graphics it's dead shure you are affected by the 2 power regressions that were introduced by changing the allowed CPU/GPU/chipset power states due to bug reports. My processor is a 1.33GHz Intel Core i5 U470, which is Nehalem. Would you still recommend the changes to ...
