Re: External HDD Enclosure won't mount EXT4

Check that the enclosure is not earthing the drive (screws too tight or similar)
Probably not likely, but i overtightened a motherboard once and had a similar problem.

Interesting morning

We were woken up this morning at 4.30 am by a force 7.4 earthquake that rolled through for about 20 seconds (felt like 20 minutes). Load roaring, VERY strong shakes and the sound of the house creaking and things falling in every room. Of course still dark, about zero (centigrade) no electricity no l...

Re: Buy Merlwiz A New Computer

Could you please publish the results of the deliberation. I am finding more and more distributions (including some Mint) will not work on my machine so I am looking at updating MB and CPU and would be grateful for the guidance. Current spec is K8M800 which uses Via graphics and AMD Sempron 2800 so p...

Unable to run "live" other distros

When other distros are mentioned in the forums I some times have a closer look, usually for curiosity, but occasionally because I still have trouble with some of the Ubuntu derived graphics. I have recently downloaded sidux, chakra and Mandriva one, burned the CD and tried to boot the live CD. In al...

Re: Sandisk Sansa e200 recognized in Mint 6 but not Mint 7?

I have a similar situation. My Sansa C250 using Rockbox is mounted and recognised immediately as a removable drive and in Rhythmbox and Banshee. However no files will show in the players and as a dirve the Music file is empty. Works fine in mint 5 but not in 7. I was totally unable to install Mint 6...

Re: Ubuntu 9.04 looks nice

I tried out the new Ubuntu last night after not being able to resolve the intel graphics problem with Felicia
(tried all the suggested work rounds). Both live Cd and install worked faultlessly, so imo a welcom improvement.

Roll on Mint 7

Re: Alert! /dev/sdax does not exist. dropping to a shell!

I have been following this discussion as I have a case of UUID incompatibilities which shows up with differences between the results shown by blkid and fstab. The incompatibility is not causing me any problems but which is the correct result.??

Has CD technology changed ??

My CD/ DVD player/writer died on Friday. Bought a new one (generic chinese) Saturday and installed plus added an older (approx 2 yrs) Cd writer with DVD playback only. Set up with the older unit as master and the new as slave. On trying to rip a CD the older unit ran at about 2-3 x speed. The new un...

Critom

Try the same as Ubuntu.
Rt click on panel, select "add to panel" go to last entry Click on "Workplace selector"
and add. It will add 4 desktop options.
Then once added rt click on the new selector and chose preferences for the detail.

Mike,
Thanks for the response. I found I had somehow lost my listing in the vboxuser group.
After correcting that I could access the iso and now all seems OK.

Solved Installing from live CD to Virtualbox

I have recently installed Virtualbox with XP as a guest (needed for one program). I am now very happy with my Elyssa setup. I do not want to risk it by doing unnecessary installs of other distros, but I would like to have a look at some of the other other Linux offerings by installing in Virtualbox ...

Re: Virtual Machine Recommendations

Kwisher, Just finished a Virtualbox installation a few minutes ago. Yes it has USB support. There is good information in the forums. My suggestion is to download the Virtualbox user guide first and follow that. I first tried with 1.5.6 from the repository without (complete) success (no USB support)....

Re: Partitioning 100GB HD and installation...

Tenfoot, Have a look at some of Fred's "How to" s on partitioning etc. Search "Fred partitions" and look in the "How To"s Very/quite easy to understand. You possibly don't need a separate boot partition , but as before go with Fred. His suggestion about a data partition...

Extract music from DVD

I have a couple of commercial DVDs of films and would like to extract the music for use on my player
for use outside. (SansaC250/Rockbox).

I have looked at the forums but have not seen anything that fits the case.

Any suggestions or pointers to references available.

Thanks in advance

Euan
