Re: faster downloading?

This is a pretty lazy solution, but I still like using the Download 'em All add-on for Firefox. Worked like a charm so far.

Re: How to edit ~/.xscreensaver

robins80 wrote:I did that, double clicked on the file in question and nothing happened. No editor came up or anything.
Open the Terminal and enter the following:

Code: Select all

sudo gedit XXXX
Drag and drop the file where XXXX is. This will open the file with gEdit (your text editor) as root (sudo).:)

Full system encryption for Mint

I know that you can encrypt folders and files with various tools, but is there a way to encrypt the -whole- system? I'm on Elyssa.

If nothing else helps, CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE usually saves the day (but not your data).

Re: flash installed but not working

It should be, in theory. I've had problems with Flash on two out of three systems I've installed Elyssa on. If you're getting a gray box instead of the player/game/whatever, you're probably facing the same problem as your's truly. What helped in my case was uninstalling Flash via Synaptic and instal...

Re: Selective muting :?:

I don't know of anything "from the system side" - the categories are so wide in sound settings Turn off sound in flash? An add-on for FF that mutes sound (don't know if one exists) because in FF proper there seems to be no way of muting sound Flash was just an example. I was really hoping for somet...

Selective muting :?:

I was just wondering if there's anyway to mute a specific application from system-side, without turning down the sound for everything else. E.g. I'm playing a Flash game with an awfully annoying soundtrack that can't be turned off. I want to listen to my .mp3s. Can I mute the Firefox without muting ...

There seems to be some kind of bug with ATI and older editions, which continues right into the present
Oh - turn off compiz - that may help
Compliz doesn't change anything, nor is there any visible output. The whole thing just goes black and freezes dead.

Re: SKYPE and FLASH problems

I think you are not the only one with this problem. Try the latest flash you have to enable the Romeo repositories, best done by gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list Remove the two ## in front of the Romeo line Then start mintUpdate and refresh and you should get the flash - and the latest version of m...

Re: Adding Terminal to Desktop.

Hello! I would like to know how to add Terminal launcher (icon) to desktop. Thank you! Hi! Go to the mintMenu and find the Terminal there (usually under Accessories). Then just drag-and-drop the icon on your desktop. For quick access, you can also place it on the panel. Same procedure as the last t...

Selecting lines on-click?

Hi! There's a certain difference between the Windows and mint/Ubuntu versions of Firefox: when you click on the URL in Windows the program selects it automatically, i.e. in order to enter a new URL you don't have to delete the line manually. It's not the case in Mint. Is there any known work-around ...

You must realize that all my answer are sort of "given in the dark" - I hardly know anything about the particular computer with a problem :)
Mine is updated daily, thus I guess it's not it. :)

I think I've tried that already, but I can try again.
- Upon startup run
- sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
Do you mean after start-up in the terminal or during the GRUB?

Driver installed, but no Wireless on the networks list

I've recently installed Mint on a friends laptop and, in contrast to my own installation, the WLAN didn't work out of the box. The Wireless Connection was not on the networks list (Wired was on there alright though). What I did then was using the Windows Wireless Drivers tool for adding the driver t...

"About me"?

Two quick questions:

- What is the point of the "About me" application?
- Who can access the data entered there?

Thanks in advance,
